Good luck man, hope it works out well for you.

Ive done a couple of crane jobs recently, it can be fun stuff no doubt... still I dont think I'd want to do it every day though.

Maybe I couldnt stand the thought of making someone else all that money. lol

Even if it doesnt work out there is always self employment!

thanks fellas.

wow thats an old crane! you know alot of dudes huh tomtrees?

hey prentice. chippers with a grapple. i dont forsee humping much wood around any more! lol.

should be fun. you've seen me tree mds.....built for running big saws in the tree.

Those things suck, like any piece of bastardized equipment. Some guys hate having bought them, cuz the loaders do all the work.

Seen it done with log trucks: they would set the big top down, Prentice would move it so that the grounders could cut it up, then the loader would move the brush to the chipper and logs accordingly. The loader operator had a remote throttle control for the chipper so he could save on fuel.

Seen a similar operation out west for fuel wood mitigation, ie cutting all the trees around houses, they had a big excavator with a thump that ran the pines through the chipper.

dont insult buzzards like that

you a buzzard too, homeboy. lol.

hey jps, you refering to chippers that have grapples or prentice log loaders?
i havent worked with a grapple chipper yet. i have been around with the log truck feeding the chipper though.

getting back to a chipper with a winch too! oh boy.

what do you boys think about a geeked out 346 with a full wrap sporting a 20in bar for hanging off the crane? might have to try to work that in for a signing bonus. lol.

Best of luck oldirty with your new venture! Sounds like you left on good terms too. Its gotta be a sad day for your old boss. I hate to see my best ones go elsewhere, but everyone must choose their own path!

i'm sure he's pissed at me but yes, good terms. if it wasnt for his company i would not have learned alot of the good arboricultural practices that i did and i thanked him for that.

i dont know.... just a good opportunity.

Ya gotta go with a 361 in that scenario, buddy. 16 inches on the bar. Just walk 'er around.

I usually go with the 361 20" when I get out of 200T territory. Sometimes I try to get away with the 260 with the 16" bar but on crane jobs that's not usually the case. Of course there are lots of times I go straight to the 044 25" bar if I am in really big wood but I usually try not to break that out till the last pick on the spar when I can cut from the ground.I'll generally only change over saws one time and let the size of the tree dictate which saw I use. The guy who taught me how to do crane work made me carry a 038 boat anchor the whole climb. Man I hated that saw. :chainsaw:

i used the 361 with 18. did fine. just thinking that a hot rodded 346 fullwrap with a thin kerf 20 bar would be slick. going for style man. want to be heard. lol.

It's not how well you do the job, it's how good you look doing it. Gotta keep them panties wet, lol.

hence the thinking of that saw all jammed out. light weight saw that cuts like a raped ape being able to get at 40inch wood would be perfect. keep the big saw on the ground for butt cuts. think about it man. that little saw might be the ticket if it gets worked ovwe by a builder. 500 for the saw plus 250 for the work plus maybe like a hundred in parts (gonna want some sweet dogs on it) and that comes to less than or around a 460 or a 372.

i dont know boys...... i'm liking it.

Man, that 361 is perfect with a 20" for groundwork. Run it all day and not feel a thing. I slapped a 16 incher on ( at my brother's request ) for in the tree use and immediately fell in love. I took out a big silver maple yesterday, pulled out all the stops with a zipline and some seriously fun rigging tricks. After I'd whittled through most of the hairy parts of the tree with the 200 i hauled up the 361 with a 16 and started raining hell on the groundies. Talk about a blast.

actually put in a half day today for them. was supposed to start this coming monday but they needed someone today. nothing like some OT in your first paycheck. lol.

Good for you olddirty. I got started myself in a family owned business back in the late 80's in mass. I was a great compy to work for, until the old man died of a stroke. then it when down hill. God I miss the old days when you looked forward to go to work and hear the old war story's.

although i did get a great idea on proper pruning practice and general tree preservation and learned to loooove rope climbing i am a euc man. i tried to get my oak man on, i did. but i found myself feeling as if my talent wasnt being used properly.
/sad news that you never found enough oakman talent to keep that going. This trade is full of eucmen right now, wanting to ride the ball and make the lumber fly. No balance in the industry.
