If you check the link I posted it says it's a 2-mix {2-mix = strato} and uses 20% less fuel and produces 50% emissions reduction. Sorry, it's a strato.

Bah humbug!!!!

As a couple of members here know the 661 (and probably the 461?) have had a few changes with their transfers too. The 661 now has transfers on the cylinder which match into longer transfers that are part of the crankcase. Should be a torquey beast but I'll be interested to see what some of you saw porters can get out of them or even how easy they are to mod. You'll now have to port the cylinder AND the case :)
They really should have fitted M-Tronic though although fuel injection is likely to be next cab off the ranks after Stihl's latest cut off saw.

Man I hope Ur right....

I want to see them be a strato engine.

After all.....I port chainsaw engines. I like to think I manage to get good gains and the saw still be user friendly and reliable. The new M-tronic and autotune technology make tuning a non-issue once the engine leaves me and is in the hands of user. I like that.

I have a saw that I just finished that is going from here (1900 ft above sea level) to 400 feet above sea level. The owner admittedly isn't the best tuner (his words)......I have to try to get the saw setup for his altitude.......I worry a little about these things.

Now I realize that the MS461 supposedly isn't a M-tronic engine (at this time) but with the focus on new technology I imagine it will only be a short time before this engine is both stratified and auto tune (either carbed or injected). If the cylinder design follows that of the MS 261, MS361, and MS441 it will be a quad port setup that takes well to mods. I like that too. :)

I just hope the intake system is setup like the 441.........

Oh.....Jer, you can either embrace this new stuff or get left out........

randy i'm at sea level i would tune 1000 RPM under what you want it to run.

You do a good job of guessing right. You did my cs600p and I haven't touched the carb on it. I am at 470 ft. It tachs 13400 and 4 strokes out of the wood and cleans up under load.

I've been contacted by a member in Canada about porting the MS461........If he follows through we will we seeing a very detailed build thread on this saw.

I also have a workshop manual in route for the saw.....looks like it may be a split carb like the 261.....in that case losing the strato function may make this saw a beast.

I was hoping it would be designed like the 441 with separate butterflies.....oh well.

The saw appears to have rubber buffers too. I guess they didn't read the memos we sent. From everything I see it truly appears that Stihl is losing to Husqvarna in many areas. :(

i didn't think they could be that dumb :bad_smelly: maybe it's to try and stop you making it the saw it should be randy
