Ok, I am confused here.....

You had a 460 and sold it because you didn't use it.

You had a 460 BB that you sold right after getting it together.

Why would you buy a 441, if you had two bigger saws at the same weight?

Another mind boggling thought I have, if you and computeruser are good buddies, and you are spending 700 on a saw, why didn't you look at the red and black saw that is bigger, more power, abiet the same weight? (give or take for sawtrolls sense of arguement) I know quite af few of them that have spent some time on a mill and are quite impressive......

Just randon thoughts, didn't mean to antagonize. If it is offensive, I'll remove it.....

I followed the "Prince" thread for awhile, even posted a couple times!!

The real content came in the first few pages, after that it was TreeCo against the world!!!

Small correction : it was Treeco and Manual against the STIHL world. The Stihl world won, as usual....:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I knew this would come up....

I would have no problems buying a Dolmar. Ive run Brandons, and his 7900 beat my 460 no problem. I dont, however, want to buy new bars and then new chains for one saw. I realize I can get one of your adaptors to use the stihl bars, but Im not an adaptor kind of guy. (But hey, you may be able to talk me into it, Im not at all against owning one.)

I sold the 460 because after getting the 066 I never used it anymore. The 066 was such a blast to run with a 20" bar, I would always grab it.

I had every intention of keeping the 460 BB I rebuilt, and running it. Then Ultra came around and lite a fire under me to get a new 660. That neccesitated selling the 066 and the BB460.

Right now Im pretty well set up with the 361 and the 660. But having a few extra $$$, and the 441 looks like a neat saw to own.......

I have given the 7900 some serious consideration, and its not out of the pic yet, but I,m leaning heavy towards the 441. Heck, Id even consider the 372 if they produced it two-tone!!!

Good post.

They do make the 372 in two tone...Red and black.

Thos adapters are just like the ones made by cannon. I have had no problem running them. They bolt to the saw and are done, not funky loose bar or pieces falling out....

I only run them because I have a stock pile of Stihl mount bars and like the idea of having multiple bars of the same mount that fit a variety of saws. Trying to limit my inventory....

I love my 372's, but these 7900 are really opening my eyes. The thing is stronger and stronger everytime I run it. I haven't used the 372 much since I got the 7900.....or the 660.....but that will change when I get my mill. I'll use the 660 for the smaller stuff and the 084 for the big-uns

The other thing is getting parts.....I know there is a dealer about 20 minutes from me....Ill need to check into it.

Didnt you say you were going to have a run of those adapters? What are you going to charge for them?

Thats the main reason I want to stick to the same mount. Ive got a 16", 20", 28" and 36" and about 5 chains for each.

Also a 28" thats for milling and 4 28" chains. and a 36" for the mill and two 36" rip chains.

Thats allota dough tied up in bars and chains to go out and buy a saw thats a different mount.

yeah I hear you on the bars and chains, I have those and a couple 24" ES bars too. At least 5 chains each......

On a side not, if you do buy a domar or husky. I have a couple 20" and 28" bars for you.....lol

Do the 372 and the 7900 take the same mount?

Yes. Both use Oregon D009 mount, not sure on the GB or winsor mount #.

The adapter will only work on the 7900 family. I have a seperate one for the 372, because the stud spacing is differant between the 7900 and 372.

Ya Ya, Did it ?

Yeah, the one Jonsered dealer I have nearby uses an old Toyota 1ton as their go getter......Ive been in there to get filters for the Scag we have at work...I wont buy a saw from them.

I liked your ripsaw Idea.
the 4 cycle one caught my eye.
Don't know if it would be Mobile enough for your needs.

Ok, I'm ready to blaspheme here. On Thursday I stopped by the local dealer to pick up a part and he'd just got his first (2) ms441s. So after reading all the posts I decided to inquire about it. He said they'd come in about an hour ago and he was getting ready to take one out and set it up, asked me if I wanted to check it out. Now admittedly, I had no intent on buying a saw, and while I cut frequently, no need for a ms441 sized saw, but he was offerring and if someone offers you the keys to their Porsche, by all means take it for a ride. So he set it up with a 20 and a 440 with a 20 also. I held the 441, it felt heavier (it is, .7 lbs) and I didn't like the air filter set up, (clips are to small for even my small fingers), but I said to myself this is the future, but let's see how they perform against each other in the log. We went outside and I had at it with the 441 and the 440 in the same 18" willow oak log. First thing I noticed, the 441 was smoother through the cut. But the 440 seemed more 'excited' in the log, more responsive. After a few minutes with both, I must confess, I prefer the 440. Both were great saws, but at 120 lbs soaking wet, that extra 3/4 of a pound for .1 more hp didn't seem like a good trade.
Honestly, the 441 felt heavy and not as hungry as it's predecessor.
I am not a pro. I am not an expert. I am a Stihl fan. I am also on the nostalgic side and like the 0XX saws I grew up with. I walked away from the 441 thinking "EPA mandated".
OK, have at me, it's Saturday night. B

Hey manual did ya read that, did ya did ya read it. I want your brain to comprehend the part in the bold in that post. Last time i checked that 441 was in the 70cc class range....

highsiera, if I can ask, what size saw do you have and how much wood do you normally cut a year?

This isn't about you. This is about another member that has his thoughts thinking every homeowner needs a 70-80cc saw.

You funny guy. And a good point. The only reason I picked a 441 over a 361 is that I had my heart set on an Arctic version. This will be my major main saw for a longgggg time(probably forever), so I wanted it.

Was the 440 brand new just like the 441?

If it wasnt, that wasnt a fair comparison as we all know saws open up more with use.
