you own a 200t thats why the Husky doesnt seem right. No comparison. Were you just trying something new or unhappy with the 200t?

I didn't try anything new, nor do I need to, the 200t rocks. My brother got the 338 because he said his hand wouldn't fit in the 200t.

Long as I've known husky they've been good to me, got a 262xp going on year 12 was doing fine but now quit after new clutch, bar and chain etc. just would'nt start I was told, maybe ignition module or whatever?? But even if that saw was done ferever, what a trooper, all the prickers/dull chain groundy burning thru stumps and all other s#@% that things seen...let it rest I say. I'm thinking 357xp to replace, does this sound correct??

Sounds good to me. We have had a few 357's, we love them, lot's of power for the package. If I remember right the 262's were excellent, not sure if the 357 will have as much grunt, but it will have speed. If in doubt get a 372.

Your brother was it him using the saw? I have always said you can ruin a good horse with a bad rider! I am not saying that is the case here just wandering especially on the 395xp! I have a 334 and it oils fine and is an ok saw I wont say it is a great saw though. However my 395 is a great saw and I am thinking will last my lifetime or at least retirement!

They are both his saws. He can run a saw with anybody, not a problem.

i hate to say it man. but i am now a stihl guy. nice to look at them huskies but cant stand up to what work gives em. busted the gas tank on one my saws and the fricking thing was in the box. gonna pay to fix it but not spending a dollar on a new one.

tell your bro he shoulda ponied up for the 2hunge. you know what that saw got.

I know OD, I told him to get a set before he bought the 338, but he said he couldn't get his hand in it. I am thinking about buying all Stihl from here on out, I just don't like a lot of their prices, marketing, air filtration and bull$hit dealers thinking everybody pays retail.

How do you feel about the power of Stihl's rearhandles compared to Husky?

your brother got big ol banana hands or something? that 2hunge fits my hand just perfect. i got big hands.

onto your Q. i'll talk about what ive run.

the 660 with DP muffler i own. and really like to put it to the hardwood. she dont "scream" (high RPMS) like a 395/394 but i believe she holds through the cut at its RPM's better than the husky. what i mean is that if you dog in with intentions of trying to bog it, she dont. in fact she pulls harder.

i dont like 440/441. something missing from that saw....not sure what. and thats the second reason why i am keeping the 371xp

as we speak i have a crush on the 460. with a 24 inch bar i think that saw would be the nuts. especially in the hard stuff. i'd put a DP muff on that too. (my next purchase is going to be the 460 as i just described) we have a 28in on the one at work but the wood is soooooft up here so it rips no probs wearing a 28.

the 361......keep it at 18-20in bar and that saw is a gamer, plain and simple. i hate to admit this to any one because i had a little stiffy for my 359 but......it looks like the only husky i am going to keep in my line up is my 371xp and thats just for the sentimental reasons.

hope that helps. lol

Let's start at the top. I am not sure how my bro expects the saw to fit, he just didn't like the feel.

My 394 will stay in the lineup until she blows. That saw rips and lugs. I am thinking about adding the 880 Stihl for a chainsawmill and my all around go to powerplayer.

I couldn't agree with you more on the 441/440. Especially the 441, you could throw that saw (new) in the dumpster with me watching and I wouldn't even come back later that night to pick it up. In reality it isn't that bad, just not for me. For the weight, give me the 460.

I hear ya on the 460 crush, it's a common one. I run a 24", oh I mean 25" on my 460. lol. I also have the dual port. I feel it pulls good in the hardwood. Seems to me it's a strong durable saw built for the longhaul. Excellent choice.

Oh the 361, I was going to stop at the Stihl dealer last night and look at one, but I didn't have time. I think I will go tonight and give her a good look. That ain't a good thing either, I know what always happens next, and the wife will never understand. BTW: I still have a stiffy for my 357.

Thanks for the lowdown Oldirty, I will keep you posted. Out.

Oldirty, does your hand still fit in the 200t even in winter with gloves on? That's the only complaint i have about it, it sits in my garage most of the winter because my hand won't fit.

And i can't believe a couple guys feel the same way i do about the 441. Bought one last spring cause of all the hype down in the saw forum. Very disappointed in it. A little too big to be my main climbing saw, too small to be my stem saw. They all said it will run a 24 with no problem, i thought it stunk, but that may be because i'm used to running a 28 on my 395. The 441 just couldn't turn the 24 as well as i liked. It's a decent saw, just doesn't do what i want it to do and what it was hyped up to do. When i sink a saw in a stem, i don't want to have to jockey it. It's actually just my chipper saw now days. The 361 is good, but i'll stick with the 357's simply because the husky dealers are better in the area.

beowulf, now that you mention it, my brother was complaining about the winter glove fit. His exact words.

I stopped at the dealer tonight to check out a 361, but they didn't have any. How do you like it compared to the 357?

357xp is an awesome saw.i wish i kept mine.

361 is a great saw as well.

i know a lot of people who are sadly disappointed in the 441.my buddies fell on it's face with a 24".most people who have runs a 044/440,a 372xp,or a 046/460 will not be impressed with the 441.it sounds like it's screaming but in reality it isn't.kind of like a democrat,a lot of noise but no substance.

stihl makes some great products no doubt.i also agree on the 200t over the 338.i have big hands as well and i have no problems with the handle being too small.top handles just aren't huskies strength but rear handles seem to be.my huskies have been very dependable but i also take care of my stuff and don't throw it around like someone else owns it.

.

i'm no where near needing that saw but i do find myself wanting. that thing is a beast. go big time and get an 090!

to be honest ive never even noticed. in winter i try to wear the ironclad winter glove which is a tight snug fit. are you wearing bulky gloves?

and thats a good enough reason for me to keep with the 3fiddy7.

28 on my 660 too.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news bub but that 371 is the one with the busted tank. yes my heart broke too. i was devastated.

Chalk me up as one of those people. I've been kind of looking around for another saw in the 70cc class, expecting that my 372 isn't going to last forever. A couple of weeks ago, I got to run an almost new 441 with the stock 25" bar/chain combo. It really did sound like it it screamed but it totally dogged in the cuts. Not impressed at all. And I was only cutting pine. So I won't be ponying up for one of them.

I was thinking of starting a thread for opinions of saws in the 70cc class but am sure there are threads on that already out there, just haven't looked. I really like the power/weight ratio of the 372 but they are kind of hard to find around here and pricey.

hmmm,i've never busted a tank on a husky.

guess you're not the responsible owner i thought you'd be. i have seen plenty of Stihl tanks busted and epoxyed.some look like they are deteriorating or had acid spilled on them.

there are a few dealers here with ms440s still on the shelf.

they aren't going to be any cheaper than a 372xp but it's an option and an excellent saw.all these old school models are bringing good money on ebay.looks like the days of getting a decent used 372 or o44?440 on ebay are over.i have to buy another one soon.

They are both excellent saws, the dealer thing is the only reason i go with the 357. But i'll tell you something odd. I've been running primarily huskys for over a decade. I went to pick up the stihls and the first thing i noticed was that the second throttle, throttle safety, whatever you want to call it that runs down the top of the rear handle is noticibly shorter on the stihls than on the husky's. Took me probably a week to get used to it. Not a problem, was just something different.

Yep, i hate tight gloves. They seem to keep my hands colder. I hate gloves period. But i have a lady who lives down the road from me that makes me four pairs of custom gauntlet gloves every fall. There the only glove i'll wear and about the only glove that fits. Tried on a pair of my groundie's carhart x-large gloves last winter and my knuckles were in the cuff. Hands aren't huge for my size, but the fingers are long.
