I picked up some cool old poulan bars today. Mark told me to spend less, but I couldn't help it. Here are the two Ill part with for the poulan clan, but he gets first dibs on them since he helped me out and I already offered...
The nicer one is $25 and the one with a little rust is $20. Both are the same and I have original sleeves for both. You pay to ship. I got 2 more, but they fit my saws so for now, I'm keeping them.

Again my words can't express how much I love my new 5200. Mark did an amazing restoration.

35??

So I recently picked up some non running machines for scrap price off fee bay... Amongst the carnage, was this Poulan... I can make out 35 on the side decal, and I assume there are a couple more numbers to follow where the sticker got mangled. I don't see anyplace else the saw is labeled as such. The tag down by the rear grip lists it as a Poulan/Weed Eater. None of the numbers on the Acres site work with 35** under Poulan/Weed Eater... There is a 3500 in the Poulan Electrolux section that looks right...

Mechanic I picked it up from at the yard service place told me they hadn't fixed it as the starter dogs we trashed and he couldn't find any. Looking through a number of IPL's it sure looks like the 3500, and so I ordered a couple starter dogs for that... We'll see if they fit when they come...

So, anyone know if there is a way to put a positive ID on this minus the decal? The serial number decal is in tact, and tells me its a Type III along with the SN and some additional numbers, but no model number there...

Tim it is indeed a 3500. Good 60cc saws.

Anyone have/know the specs on a "Craftsman 2.5 Turbo"....???

I can't imagine the 'Turbo' means anything, but I picked up a Craftsman 2.5'er on CL for $35 (that says Turbo on the flywheel cova) - no pics yet but it seems like a nice find, rusty muffler but the rest is rather clean.....

Ok, now that its all out I have to say, that I almost had to whip Andre to take that saw.

He is that much a stand up guy. I wont go into all that went through this deal, but I'll just make it simple. The man was doing me a good will gesture/favor for nothing I might add and when things went south he thought it was his responsiblity to make it right out of his own pocket. Not small pocket change I might add.

Well when I found in out disscussions that he didnt even want to talk about me paying for anything I just got to thinking that he deserved something.

Our good mutual friend Mike and I got to talking about it and I decided that since I had just aquired a partial 5200 with a excellent top end that it had to be rebuilt/restored for Andre since we all knew that he had been wanting a good 5200 for some time.

I will say one thing, that I had help in this endevor and the help should be brought out to the spotlight as well. First Mopar Mike helped me with some parts for it, second Roger/3000FPS helped with some case repairs and my friend Cbfarmall/Chris helped by hounding me to get it done in time for the GTG.

This saw didnt get the full shelf queen resto as I cut a few corners to save time and since the fact was I wanted Andre to be able to run and enjoy it. Its a good thing too as I get sick looking at that fresh clutch cover decal that I screwed up by laying it on a towel that had gas on it in my haste while getting it running. :bang:

The inside of that saw is almost all new and excellent so he should be able to run it for pleasure for as long as he cares to without worrying about hurting it. You all seen the video, it seems to run really well and that cut was indeed the first time that it had ever cut wood. I had told him that and you can see him being easy on it and pulling back on it some to listen for the 4 stroke burble.

Once it breaks in it should be a strong one.

Now enough of that. Did you all see that video of the 475 that he done? What a runner, I'm still grinning from ear to ear.

That video of it was my first cut with it. I wasnt all in it either. Later on I took a chain of mine, filed it by hand and took the rakers down to .030 on it. You guys should have seen that! Big chips flying and you can lean on this monster and it dont care!!!

I would say were two happy guys right now and I feel great about it.

I like this picture better then the ones posted as it shows the good decal. :msp_biggrin:

From that little info I would guess its a Poulan 2500.

I want to say Thanks and I just love running everyone else's saws :msp_biggrin:. Especially the 4900 and 5200. Love the torque of these saws in the cut.

I just refuse to start buying another series of saws even though they run like :chainsaw::msp_thumbsup:. Which just leaves more for you guys. :msp_wink:

That's my saw Steve is running, and its a strong 85cc 5200. You can put a bow on your 3400 but just don't expect it to cut anywhere like that.

:agree2:

:agree2: I have a 3400 here that I would have liked to bring just to demonstrate that they are a bit underpowered to pull a bow. Didn't have room. 60cc saw would be better and 70cc would be much better. If you have a strong runner you may be able to get by with it but you won't stand it up like that 5200. Listen to it pull the rpm's down when you do that.

I must of had too much coffee this morning.
Ya, I can't expect the same type of performance of the 5200 (I didn't know it was 85cc) just thought it was a cool saw and in my manual it says that my 3400 will except a bow bar attachment.
I can't remember the last time I saw a video of one. I still like the operator position when running a bow, I guess I'll have to keep a look out for a 5200.
I really like that one you did for Andre, you did an Awesome job on that Mark! Almost too nice to run!:msp_thumbup:

Thanks for the heads up!

I think I failed to thank Gregg again before I left for the AF cover for my 3700, it is much appreciated.

Your more than welcome Gary. Just wanted to say, I loved your efforts with the camera, catching stuff going on during the GTG. But, the candid photos of me and Mike, make us look....well, like we are not quite all there, :D :ices_rofl: I guess the camera don't lie!

Gregg,

Gregg,

I thought the same thing when I went to post them, but they were the only ones I had. I will try to do better next time getting more pictures of everyone (I missed Al, Chris, etc.) so I have several to choose from. Is this one from last year better?
