Well I aint a Mac guy and thats all I'm going to say, Aaron gets mad if I say more. :msp_rolleyes: Gotcha a couple good Poulans though! Like Joe says thats a 3700 air filter cover on it. The Craftsman is a Micro based Poulan 2300 CVA and a pretty good little saws and are powerful too. Do I see a Canadian decal on it and does is say made in Markham Ontario on it?

The Craftsman is in nice shape at least looking externally. the saw has a Made in Canada sticker on it (you've got better power of observation than me) so I assume it was made in the Markham plant. I believe theyPoulan set up shop in the Skil factory.
Per my above post (I guess you were replying when I was posting), the green one is a 3700. Happy boy tonight (or old guy).

Guys I just came in from cleaning and cleaning some more on all the parts to this 8500, it was a filthy mess.

I found out something I wasnt thinking about and was a little surprised to find that this saw was not painted but was powder coated from the factory. :msp_unsure:

I was all set to blast the parts and paint it but am not so sure now. I want this saw to look like new but want to run it some as well and am thinking that maybe I should look into getting it powder coated again instead of painting it.

The only thing that concerns me is the color matching. The black should be no problem as I know they have a black that is not super glossy but I dont know if they can match the lime green like is needed. Anyone know about that?

I'm going to look into seeing if someone local does it and see what they say.

I'm pretty certain that if you can give them a paint code (and I know you can) they can convert it to powder.

Hey mark, I powder coat a bit. The black is easy as you said, but I think the green is close to Kawasaki green. You can mix powder coat to get custom colors too. Here's a few good links

Joe, You just made my day! Just pulled the muffler off and it has two thin rings. I've been looking for a 3700 for some time.

Now I figure that's the best $20 I've spent in a long time excepting flowers for my wife who lets me buy saws with nothing more said than "go get it".

Well, thats good to hear! Nothing wrong with a 3400, but the 3700s and thin ring 3.7s are sleepers.....

Mark,

Well that is nice that it is a 3700. Not surprising to find it coverted to a 3400 recoil setup as the 3700 had there own style of recoil and it had its share of problems.

Yeah I noticed the Canada sticker right away as my Canadian built 3000 has the same sticker.

I'm not sure about all that after I have done some internet searching.

No thanks on the Kawasaki green, its not that close. In looking through a internet search I did find Prismatic powders and they do have a lime green that looks worth looking at. I also found a place not far from work that was listed from there site that I will call tomorrow.

Worth a PM I guess. Thanks.

I looked at the starter through the fins as soon as I saw the thin rings. I believe the starter itself has been converted because I think it has a 4 cog pulley. I guess I'll find out more when I start going through it.

NICE SCORE TIMMY

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes YAHOOOOOO

Don't forget to ask about masking off the gasket surfaces.

I finally found a Craftsman version of the 3400 series. I have not got it yet but can anyone tell me what the grey Craftsman varients were, ie 3400, 3700, 3800 etc? I know with my luck it'll be another 3400 but I'd give my first grandchild (or maybe second) for a 4000. Very few Craftsman saws ever made it out here and this one must have been early, as it has no chain brake.
Will post up some pics when it arrives.

Al the grey/black Craftman saws of this series were 3400's (labeled "3.4" and sometimes "3.0") and 3800's (labeled "3.7").

The red saws were 3400's (3.4), 3700's (3.7), and a few 3800's (also labeled "3.7", but with a different 358.xxxxx Sears model #).

There were no Craftsman labeled Poulan 4000's.

Thanks Aaron, it's a 3400 then. I am still happy because it is a nice one but I guess I have to keep looking. Will share soon.

As others have said, you should be able to get any color you want. There might be a premium though to mix a custom powder color for you and a minimum buy qty (powder i sold by weight). That being said, there are lots of internet retailers who sell the powder. You could search around for a stock color that is close and bring it to the powder coating house. Also, a lot of places will sample you a pound or so for free!

I have my 365 torn down for cleaning and the crankcase looks very similar to my 3750. Are they the same case? its a great runner but it does not seem to be as strong as my 3750

Made a few calls today got some good info and got some run around as well. I'm taking the parts to a guy after work tomorrow to see about matching the lime green. We will see.

Trick question....

I really cannot say for 100% certainty but they should be close to the same, but I doubt they will completly interchange.

The 3750 should be a little stronger, its newer and used a bigger carb. I understand that there might have been some porting difference.

I know when I had my 3750 apart the transfer ports were very impressive looking for an open design. I do not know if the 365 are made the same.

Or like Aaron says it could be a 3800.

I wish. I should have mentioned I saw "3.0" on small pic - gotta be a 3400. And thanks for the 8500 updates.

And you wouldn't want to know but I went to the PO just now to pick up what I thought was the Craftsman, opened the box and stared at a really nice (green) 3400. I thought I was going mad - it wasn't a Craftsman? Then I realised it must be a different saw, but I didn't buy another 3400 lately. I don't know where it has come from because there is no sender's address on it.
There are some mighty fine and kind AS members here and obviously one of them has sent it to me. I have a sneaking suspicion that Gmax might know something about this .........:msp_biggrin:
