I wish. I should have mentioned I saw "3.0" on small pic - gotta be a 3400. And thanks for the 8500 updates.

And you wouldn't want to know but I went to the PO just now to pick up what I thought was the Craftsman, opened the box and stared at a really nice (green) 3400. I thought I was going mad - it wasn't a Craftsman? Then I realised it must be a different saw, but I didn't buy another 3400 lately. I don't know where it has come from because there is no sender's address on it.
There are some mighty fine and kind AS members here and obviously one of them has sent it to me. I have a sneaking suspicion that Gmax might know something about this .........:msp_biggrin:

Al.

Merry Christmas AL ! :hmm3grin2orange:

No not really I didnt send it. LOL

I'm still waiting on my daughter to send me that last saw I got from Vancouver WA. Going to have to find a member there to go hurry her up with it. :msp_rolleyes:

Ha! I wouldn't put it past you Mark. (I seem to remember a 4900 crank mysteriously appearing in my letterbox some time ago.) I'd have to send you that old 1020 that's under the bench. Course, for a 4000.....

And be nice to your daughter - some of us weren't lucky enough to get any. Seems I can't even get me a daughter-in-law. I am just going to go out and buy a couple of grandkids to play with.

Made a few calls today got some good info and got some run around as well. I'm taking the parts to a guy after work tomorrow to see about matching the lime green. We will see.

If he is going to strip the mag parts prior to painting, you might want to see if he can do a pretreatment to the metal prior to paint. As I am sure you know, unprotected mag can corrode very quickly. I noticed the XX i am working on its either pickled or chromated under the paint. It will also help with paint adhesion.

Just some rambling thoughts......

Well Santa Claus left this on my door today. It is so clean that it has to be Gmax. I love 3400's.:msp_biggrin:

Thats a nice one AL.

And BTW, rent the grandkids, dont buy em.

Yeah, I got a parts 365 here with a good top end I need to pull apart and inspect some time. I'll photo it when I do.

Let me know if you decide not to rebuild it, my 365 is complete except for the hand guard that bolts to the top cover. Thanks for the informative responses.
The more poulan chainsaws I get into the more I really like them. For instance my 3750 out cuts my 036 and my friends 361, but my 3750 was 75.00 where my 036 was over 200.

At the risk of once again showing my ignorance :msp_unsure:, I don't know if this Craftsman bar is the hard-to-find length & mount frequently discussed in this thread, but hopefully one of y'all will know. I'm guessing not since it's been listed for a while with no offers showing. If yes, let me know, but don't make buy it or maker an offer :msp_tongue:.

I couldn't find which saw it's used on except for a Craftsman 358.351242
Seems to be lots of them out there for sale for around that price.

I thinks that is the K041 bar mount that works on a lot of the saws similar to the 3750 as well as others. Poulan still lists that part # as available for $66.54.

3-4,000

:msp_unsure: Couple of weeks ago, I decided to make up a saw for my sisters BF Kevin. All he uses are a couple of Wildthings. I found a real nice Craftsman 3.4 crankcase for cheap. So I dismantled what was left of my "ugly bastard" kinda ported 3400. LOL Swapped a bunch of parts and gave it to him. He has been wanting a bigger saw.

He used for a day or so and liked it. The rear handle that was on it, had been repaired with JB weld and finally came apart again. So I thought I would do a little more modifications to the saw.
I had a rear handle for an early 3400, so I drilled the holes out on that and put it on this saw. I also had a 4000 Piston/cylinder that I been hanging on to. Decided to upgrade the saw a little more. I recently came across a 4000 air filter cover, so snagged that and changed that over also.

I added a clutch cover I had also. Put an older 20" bar I had, and loop of the old Vanguard chain on it, till he can get a different one. The only things that are not 4000, is the muffler and starter.
I or he hasn't put it in wood yet since the change, but I think he is gonna like it! Runs very well!
I gave it to him and said Merry Christmas!! He is tickled with it to say the least. Its still an "ugly bastard", just not quite as ugly. LOL

Gregg,

Nuttin' ugly 'bout dat saw, Gregg. The ugly's usually on the inside IMO. That one's pretty on the inside.

Heck a 4000, what is not to like. One of these days I may have one.
I am curious if did a compression test on it and what it was.

3000 FPS, No I didn't :( The old tester I have doesn't want to work very well. Thats an item on the I want list, that I never get around to buying. lol

Your absolutely right about the ugly being on the INSIDE! I will post some pics later of another "project" I been working on. It is a sad sight for sure. Here is a pic of this saw before the change over.. Mike has one that looks very similar. Thats where I get the term "ugly bastard" from. :ices_rofl:

Gregg,

I just got a 3700 and all the mag has yellow paint (Canadian Tire colors under the green). Half the case from the 3700 swapped out on that 4000 and I think you may have all the re-badged saw colors covered.
