Are you talking about the shoes? The clutch on the saw is a 3 shoe design held together by a single coil spring.
It will probably leak but it wont hurt much except make a mess when its sitting.
You can stilll order those seals from Poulan. Better order 2 in case you mess one up putting it in, there real thin. I like to bevel the ouside of the oiler housing a bit to help get them in.

Clutch cover. The pad inside, does it look a bit like a waffle iron?
Some have a grid stamped in there.
The 3000's are like that and that is why I've been buying up all of the 16" bananna nosed bars I can find (and afford) which isn't many.
The bananna nosed bars only have the oil hole on one side of the top.

Yes the inside of the cover has that grid, I wonder if it should have a outer bar plate to stop the oil flow out the other side of the bar?

I use a cut up plate on my saw for this exact reason. My bar has a few extra "universalizer" holes drilled in it.
Who would a thought, one would see the words waffle & banana used in a response about chainsaw oiling?
The adjustable oiler on my PP380 really puts out the oil. I'm glad its that way, and not the other though. Some times it will leak when not being used, some times not.:confused2: Never have figured that out.

This is my first Craftsman and I must say they are a good looking saw in grey and black. I put this one with my green Poulans and there were no fights at all. Funny, if I put a Stihl on that shelf there is leaked bar oil all over the place next morning.:msp_biggrin:
Anyways, this saw came without a chain from the factory (or was stolen by the assistant assembling it in the chain store more like) and has sat on a shelf for a lot of years. Nobody wanted a saw without a chain and when the store closed it was sold off cheap. I bought it from the middle man who doubled his investment of $25.00. I think he was happier than me because he thought he'd never sell it. Coincidently, it is my first new saw since I bought a 3400 in 1982. This one isn't ever going to be started. And what is with the plastic clutch cover? And no hand guard (or chain brake). Sorry for the multiple pics but I feel like a new dad - wish I didn't give up smoking cigars three years ago.

Very nice, Al! Later model Poulans like the 3400-4000 had plastic clutch covers. My gray saw that I bought new doesn't have a hand guard either. It's model 358.356091 which is a rebadged Poulan 3800.
Wow Al!!! That is really nice. I have two of the craftsman 3800's one in red and one in gray. They are good running saws and I really like the ones I have alot.
To bad about the cigars though. I am still puffing on my pipes and a cigar once in awhile.

Thank you. I am thinking Sears sold a little cheaper than Poulan hence no guards but I may be wrong. This one is the 3400 version and I have always loved the banana bars.

A red one is on my search list. I have a red 3400 parts saw so am part way there. And I really miss the cigars. My wife told me it was a nasty habit and when my doctor started up about it I gave them away. Still hurts.
I did not realize how nice that gray looks when new. Also both of my saws have the plastic clutch cover.
My wife does not care if I smoke a pipe and I don't tell the doctors about it.
Poulan Pro 335 vent system
Anyone have a good pic of the "vent plug" on this thing. The IPL is not very clear at all. I can make out the usual duckbill and fitting. But really can't see what the plug, on the other end of the hose, looks like......Part # is 530027339.

Not off hand, but its just a plain old plate with the bent ears cut off. I think it was from a homie or Mac saw. Any will do that has the adjuster slot in the right place.

What a nice find! Stuff like that only comes up once in a long while.
Regarding the Stihls leaking oil; same thing happens to me. I put the Stihls away for a month and not a drop of drop of oil leaks out. I put them in amongst the Poulans and it's oil everywhere. I guess I would pee myself too if I was in a dark room surrounded by a bunch of saws that could kick the crap out of me.

Tim, I believe you are right but I wonder if the Stihls don't have what happened in '39 - '45 in the back of their mind?:msp_biggrin:
