ok Poulan Master...how you gunna top that.???.
Gregg, you got a picture of that box that the P/C came in and does it have a Poulan part # on it. You know Poulan never sold that as a set afaik. You know that 4200+ that we brought over last year to the GTG? That had a Sunbelt (I think) rebuilt P/C on it that was .030 oversize, remember us talking about that? It also had a piston with both locating pins in a row like that one you have. The only other one I seen like that one.
Measure that bore on that piston will you please? It looks biggger then the original
No worries though, you remembe how Chris's saw ran and how it only took Nik about 5 seconds in the cut to cry, "hell no this aint no 4200" :hmm3grin2orange:
Ok, I got the 8500 done tonight. No time to start it yet though. I started a new thread here http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/218252.htm#post4023865
But here are a few more pictures of it going together.
I think your onto something Mark.:msp_thumbup: I just measured both pistons. The old one is 52mm. The new one is 53mm. The box is just plain brown box, with POULAN 5200 stamped on top, no #'s. There is an address on the box also.

The old paper that was stuffed in the piston was from the Charlotte Observer, NC
The fella I got it from is from Mo.

Yep thats what I thought, thats not a NOS Poulan piston and your cyl has been overboard and rechromed. You now have a 5200 big bore and I think Chris figured it to be 88cc. I think that was the same name and address on the one that I had.
I'm pretty sure that Sunbelt from Louisville was doing these cyl overhauls, not sure where they were getting there pistons. I know I bought a 245 cyl like that on ebay once and it was overbored but it came with no piston and so far it makes a good paper weight on my desk cause I dont think I'll be able to find a piston for it.

Greg, mark may have a perfect solution to this, but I can tell you what I use. I never find the self adhesive stuff to hold up. I use an amazing contact adhesive called Welder. You can buy it at lowes. For the 3400 air filter style cork gasket it work ridiculously well. For the foam, the challenge is finding the right density, but welder will keep it put. I used super weatherstrip adhesive before I found this, but welder stays a bit more pliable. You can goop it on or apply to both parts and then stick it. Either way is crazy awesome.
Mark,
Got a simple question for ya. What do you use for the foam/gasket that blocks dust from coming into the air filter area? Would some type of self sticking weather strip work? I think on one of my other saws of that style, I just stuck a piece of foam in there. But doesn't want to stay put very well.

Gregg,
Kostas,
I think that the 4200 is loosening up to a dangerous degree because they were not meant to work in European Union countries. If you send it to me I will make sure it is reconditioned to North American atmospheric pressures, altitude, trees, etc. and then I will send it back when all the trees are gone.
You can thank me later.
I think this is the issue. The saw start to loosening really bad.Today i found the recoil cover on the floor and the flywheel far from the crankshaft.I think i will follow your advise,i'll send it to you. :msp_tongue:
Yep NLA, but you can still get the whole piston kit from Poulan or aftermarket.I'm having difficulty finding a set rings for my PP305. So far everywhere that I've looked they're NLA. Thanks!
Well, even though 3400s are not bringing much on eBay, 4000s aren't having any problems... Are you guys watching the one one there now? Holy mackerel. It looks like it ate more sawdust than gas while running without a filter and it going for a super primo price.
