Runs fine. PO said that the chain brake doesn't work. Haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. Should clean up nice. Would like to have a nice bar cover with a complete sticker. Or if someone has a good, clear pic of the sticker, I could get one made......Would also like to find a 20" PREDATOR bar for it. (Might just get a stencil set made).

Funny you shoud mention hat about the chain brake. I just picked up a 285 which is the 46cc version of the 285, 305, 335 family. It also had a broken brake band. My friend has a 305 and his lower front vibration isolator was broken as was mine. Check yours. It might be another weak link.

I had a hard time finding the brake band PN but it is 530027363 if that's the issue with the brake. They are out there.

Nice score on the saw. With a name like Predator I'll bet the trees will shake in fear when you take it into the bush. Watch out for falling acorns (Stay away from coconut trees)
I have at least 4 of that family chain brakes and only one works with a good band. The front av mount is almost always broken when I've seen/owned these...even on lower hour saws.

I may be able to get y a picture of that sticker. I have a broken brake that has a nice sticker.....I think....

Yeah!

Too many idiots think it is an axe and not a saw!
"Yeah I know my chain is as dull as a froe but it will still cut if you "raunch" on it hard enough!"

It's really the chains fault... Only for cutting wood? What's up with that? Probably a poulan thing... Stihl chains cut through Everything. :)

Craigslist ad said 455 chainsaw. Is this better than a Rancher?

Never seen one like that. I like it.
Your 61 parts will be on the way in about an hour.

Merry Christmas Guys

Guys, I want to thank you all for your invaluable help over the past year that has made it easy and fun for me to get into this great hobby.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, CAD filled New Year.

May Poulan 4200 through 8500's or whichever model green machine turns your crank, fall into your laps.

Tim Roberts

On my short list of desired Poulan chainsaws is a 245A, and one of the 4XXX models to go with the 5400. Which 4XXX would y'all recommend?

Back at ya Tim! Merry Christmas to you and your family. Same go's to all the rest of my Poulan family here. Been a number of new guys poke their head in here over the past year or so. Most just ask a question and move on. Then there are some like you, who stick around and make this thread a better, and more useful place. I probably forgot half of what I learned in here this past year:(, but hope to still be around for another year, and learn more. And to come up with an old Poulan that I wouldn't be ashamed to put on a shelf, next to one of Mark's!! :D

Gregg,

Well, I guess a 4000 and a 4200 are gonna be the easiest to find. 4400 & 4900 are pretty rare it seems. Same for the 6900, 7700 & everybody's goal, the 8500.

Gregg,

A shot of holiday cheer back at you, Tim!

Hope your 2013 is happy, healthy and that your case of CAD is satisfied!

Personally I wish I would have come over to the poulan and the mcculloch threads a long time ago. There is a lot less drama. I am new to chainsaws in general, but learning about the old saws really intrigues me. You can tell that plastic has a lot shorter shelf life than the old mag. I look forward to learning a lot more in the future. I have given up on cad for the new stuff, but I could see myself saving the oldies from the crusher. Thank you for your knowledge and help. Wishing everyone a blessed and Merry Christmas! :msp_thumbup:

Thanks Tim and I hope the Holidays are good to you too.

Cowroy I figured out that most of the guys here are Poulan collectors and just love to restore them and not a bunch of chainsaw flippers trying to make a buck off of you. There are a few who come on here who are just looking to make a buck but I have pretty much figured out now who they are.

Merry Christmas to all you guys and i hope the new year bring you more green saws (i hope the same for my self :hmm3grin2orange:).I really want to say a great thanks to all of you for the valuable advices you gave me so far and for all the knowlege you offer but i would like to say a great thanks to Mark,Tim and Gregg.I hope God bless you and your families.

Merry Christmas to everyone. I'm new here, too, but have gained some valuable insights in a short time thanks to the generous sharing of their expertise by guys like Mark and Aaron. I've had several members help me with saw parts and tried to do the same. There are some very giving people in this site. Glad I found it!

Still kicking myself for selling my PP525.. IDIOT!!!!

Happy Holidays to everyone. I really enjoy Poulan Stickie. Great bunch of guys(haven't seen any gals on the site) with a lot of info. My 2013 resolution is to make a GTG, even if I have to drive the long distance.
Bob
