The saw in the link is a normal green 3400. Wizard was the house brand name for Western Auto, they were an orange color. I have one in storage that is missing the top cover.

Gary look at the decals on the saw in the listing. It has "Wizard by Poulan" in the decals. A year or two ago a member here posted pics of his green Micro series saw that was labeled in the same manner. Maybe the last of the Wizard/Western Auto saws were green with these special decals rather than orange...

I can't document it, but that's my suspicion as well.

I remember them going from Orange to green but not certain when.
Western Auto was one of my favorite stores as a kid.
I'm pretty sure I had moved to Campbellsville when they changed and that was in 1985.

Poulan 4000

I'm kind of amazed that an incomplete, non-running 4000 sold on eBay today for $192.50+$30 shipping. It had 42 bids. Is it just me?

They are after the piston and cylinder since it will fit on any 3400, 3700, 395. Or you could use any 3400 to fix your 4000 except for some air filter items.

But hey everyone wants a sleeper.

Well that is what happens when you post from a 3" phone screen at lunch. I was not aware the Wizard's ever came in green.

I guess I just need to wake up. I was outbid on a 5200 by $5.00 this week. I would have gone more except I have the Dayton. Just wanted a green one.

I remember that Dayton, nice saw. I also saw that 5200 on ebay.

Thank you, I could kick myself but a Allis branded 245A came up on my local CL and I didn't buy it. I have too many saws now was my crazy rational for not making the purchase. I've got 3 MS440's and I really need to sell one of them before I buy anything else.

The next time that happens, just buy it, if it is reasonable.

I'll cover it!

I looked at it cause I have the parts to make a 4000 except for the P&C. Was still surprised it went for so much money. A 3700 is as good a saw powerwise. Guess its the limited access to 4000's.

I was shocked by the ending price.

It doesn't happen often, but sleepers do happen on eBay.

If you already have a 3400 you could use the P/C from the 4000 and build your own sleeper.
I see builders on the forum here doing it all the time. Take an old gray craftsman 3400 and put a 4000 top end on it with some porting and watch it fly through the wood.

It looks like fun to me.

Thanks

Ah yes, Roger. But to get a 4000 P&C! Love to find a NOS one.
