so mark, you needing any parts for that 306a? i've got a partial carcass with some parts. we still need pix.

i think im pretty well covered on parts. it wasnt really missing anything, but a few things needed replacing, and thanks to some very generous memebers I have parts on the way. Thanks Jerry.

I will get pictures as soon as its not in 100 pieces...

What's with all the 3/8" wire rope?

I'm needing a 306A type flywheel cover for the Dayton if anyone has an extra...And a wrap handle. Either style is fine (high or low) as I have small hands.

hey carl,
i may have you covered on both. the cover might be green and may resemble one you may be familiar with. let me check to be sure tonight.
not that it matters but wazamatta with the handle in the pic?
the wire rope hooks to the back of my truck to pull trees out of the woods. sometimes unwieldy and time consuming but it works. sure beats the H out of totting 20-30 rounds out by hand dontchaknow. picked these up at my favorite little store for about $3 each

Yeah, but the flywheel has been off the saw since the get go. Even if it was on....don't know if I'd be comfortable with that. Your essentially tightening the FW nut. I've seen those threads/nuts get buggered up quick from running them down too tight.

I have never seen a flywheel nut to get more tight from using my method but it depends on each chainsaw. On my 306A the clutch unscrew very easy, the same with a MS 390 of my friend. On the other hand,i won't use this method on my 4200,on this saw i prefer the tapping method, working better.Anyway,i just don't like the piston stop thing because i had a bad experience but whatever someone prefers is good for him.:msp_biggrin:

I agree with you Kostas. I always use a 3/8ths impact gun to remove clutches.
I have seen what a piston stop does to a piston. I had a J-red 670 that someone used a piston stop on and it cracked the widows in the piston close to where the wrist pin went through. I had to use my magnifiers to see the hairline cracking.

PP325 air leak

Got saw back together and replaced the seals. Ihave an air leak where the carb adaptor( impulse opening) fits into the rubber grommet on the cylinder. The part is cheap, as prices go, at about $3.00 but shipping will likely be three times as much. Anyone have an alternative? Wonder if I can find something at my local hardware store. Will first have to remove it to see what it looks like.

Clutch side is all kinked and dented from being straightend after a bend. Not round where clutch cover was supposed to clear the handle. Managed to crack my clutch cover when I installed the bar.

We know where to get A.C./Dayton orange.:msp_wink:

530024345 material

I have managed to locate some proper gasket material with the generous help from a couple of our members to make up some 3400 - 4000 and others oil pump diaphragms.

I mic'd the one in my 3700 and came up with 0.016 to 0.017".

Does anyone have a new one that hasn't been used that they could put a micrometer on so I can get the "as new" thickness on a diaphragm?

Thanks

Tim

Go to your local Husky dealer, they use the same part on a 55......part number 505310751

Bob,
Shipping might not be that bad, depending on where you get it and which shipping method you choose. I'm looking at ordering several small parts right now from ereplacementparts.
This is how their shipping rates stack up depending on which method you choose:
Priority Mail $6.75
UPS Ground $9.41
Economy Rate $3.95
UPS 3 Day Select $16.82
UPS 2nd Day Air $19.29
UPS Next Day Air $45.62

Not too bad if you can wait a few days for the economy rate shipping!

Didn't see Barneyrb's post before I posted. Guess I'm a day late and a dollar short!

Tim,
Sounds like you're back in the hunt on those oiler diaphragms! Hope the persistence pays off.

Well at least I was able to find someone who had a source. I'm just waiting for a quote. The gentleman who helped out with the source uses the same stuff at 0.010" thick to make carb diaphragms. Most of the suppliers just sell to industrial end users and the minimum order level is high. The material is nylon mesh inserted nitrile.
Let's hope it works out so I can make a bunch for those who are looking for them as they seem to be scarce. I'm expecting Randy to put his next find of them up for $200 ea.

anyone need a 3400 Poulan wizard? It looks like it would clean up nice, decals seem to be in great shape has been stored in a case that comes with it. Looks like the original banana bar on it. Chainsaw 18" Poulan

Stephen - we're enablers here, you know that. You need it, go get it. You'll need a project to keep your mind off things after 7/1, anyway.

can someone explain the whole WIZARD thing to me? is it just another model?

The saw in the link is a normal green 3400. Wizard was the house brand name for Western Auto, they were an orange color. I have one in storage that is missing the top cover.
