I don't know if the S25DA is points or electronic, never looked into it that far. It does have the newer style toggle switch for on/off.

Just for reference, it's not possible to do a complete swap from points to electronic on these..assuming one has all the parts?

The points coil and electronic coil have different mounting bosses on the cylinder (cylinders have different part #'s). A points cylinder cannot take an electronic coil. You could use a Nova/Atom type trigger module with a points coil if you wished to eliminate the points.

Ran my 'new' 4900 a bit today. It's a runner, but I'm going to replace the fuel lines and vent duckbill, rebuild the carb (+disable the governor), rehab the starter (clean/lube and new rope) and do a pres/vac test before I put it in the working fleet. Will replace the crank seals if it fails the test. It passed the 'tilt' test (no change in idle speed), but that's not good enough. 4-strokes when load is lifted in the cut. Starts, idles, and runs great. Still will kit the carb for peace of mind. Don't want anything to happen to that P/C.

This is the 28" b/c from my SXL-925W (down for a rebuild). I'll put the NOS Tsumura bar on later. That bar's still in my bedroom closet with a few other NOS bars. Also will get an HD spur from Poulan while they're still available as the 'regular' spur doesn't hang down enough to support the front of the saw with this full-wrap handlebar.

That looks great but I think I might have to round up one of those NOS poulan sprocket nose bars for it, I think they are 28" or 26" cut.

Aaron, your right to do the whole check out on that but do yourself a favor and just put crank seals in the damn thing while your at it. That PTO seal has oil on it all the time and that can skew a vac test some.

There easy as can be to change and that saw is sure worth $8 if seals.

Pp 325

I've given up in trying to find the vacuum leak on this saw. Pressure holds constant so I'm hoping the saw will run as it is. Question I have is about the flywheel. Ther are two key ways on the flywheel with the numbers 4and 5 next to each. They also are about 2.27mm apart. Which is the correct one to use? They seem to be pretty far apart for any timing adjustments.

Fossil's Poulan 3400/3700... diaphragm material shipment

Today my wife sent out the diaphragm material to the list of people who ordered it along with Fossil. We figured it might be cheaper to send it to the U.S. and re-ship from here than have everything sent to and from Canada. Everything was sent out ground USPS today, so hopefully it will get to most of you by the end of this week, or early next week.
This material is nitrile reinforced and is quite a bit stiffer than the Ultra strength neoprene material we tried earlier. Fossil made a diaphragm out of the neoprene and said it worked some at high speed, but not at lower speeds.
So, I guess we'll find out if stiffer is better.
Hope it works.

You're right Mark. I'll just replace the damn seals. My SXL-925W passed a vac/pres test, and then had a seal fail after a couple hours of work....

i have a craftsman 358.355051 saw and was wondering what poulan it is equivalent to. trying to make sure i have an ipl, etc. before i need it.

Piston and cylinder #'s in that IPL match those for a Poulan 2000. Does your saw have a "2.0" decal? That'd definitely be a 2000.

I think the timing of the shipping took Tim a little by surprise, since the supplier of the material apparently didn't tell him it had shipped yet. I had already gotten the mailing materials in hand, so my wife and I just cut up the material and got it sent out today.

I'm just waiting for the costs to come in and I'll let you all know. No rush. You'll likely all have your material before I get the costs on my MC bill. I will be away on vacation for 2 weeks coming up soon with very limited access to any kind of technology invented after 1970 so it will likely be after that.

Looks in great shape. Get a new knob for the filter cover and you'll be in good shape.
