Does anyone happen to have the IPL for a Sears Best Craftsman Chain Saw 3.3, model 358.351200,
or know which Poulan model it is?

I haven't been able to locate a downloadable manual for this exact model, & the P&C parts numbers I'm finding in my Poulan 330 & 3300 IPLs don't match the parts numbers I'm finding at Sears Parts Direct.

This saw is an feePay "sleeper" that might turn out to be a $$ nightmare.

Dang that will fire up the groupies. :msp_wink: All 70.7cc saws..................

Testing is done in a nice piece of solid 14" ash

All saws ran 7T 3/8 and all were set in the 13.4k to 13.7k range. Chain was a fresh square off w8ye square grinder. Rakers were (guessing 27 to 29) just over 25 but less then 30.

2 cuts 14" firm solid fresh take down ash.

372 11.87 11.91 stock no muffler mods.

440 10.94 10.93 stock with muffler mod, DP muffler cover with enlarged side exit hole too.

445 10.13 10.44 stock no muffler mods and still had spark screen installed.

I really thought the 445 was going to be the slowest in the cut as quite as it was and throttle response wise out of cut. Even in the cut I thought it might have been the slowest till the times were being read out to me.

Poulan 3400/3700/3800 Clutch Spider differences

Has anybody ran into the two different clutch spiders on the 3700 & Poulan Craftsman 3.7? I bought a rim drive
drum Oregon #28187, per the Oregon website, but it's not depressed in the center like the OEM 48071 rim drum.

I got to looking at other 3400/3700/3800 clutches on flea bay, and there is a "collared one" like mine, then a "flush faced" type maybe used on later models. If you try the collared clutch with the Oregon #28187 drum, about the half the clutch face sticks out. Not gonna work!

I looked through all the 3400/3700/3800 IPLs, and all call for the same spider 530011625. I guess I'll need to
find a flat faced spider if I want to use the new Oregon sprocket.

On another topic, I just noticed that the 3400/3700 seals recommended in other posts (Timken/National #253747)
are the exact same as the the SKF #6119 that Opihi59 used in his Roper 3.7PS rebuild thread...probably the only thing common between those two saws!

I've never seen a collared clutch but have seen and even have the sprockets with the collar inside. Couldn't use them and the large flat washer, so they just sit here.

The clutch on the craftsman 3.4 I have is definitely different than the one on the poulan 3400 I just picked up today. I probably wouldn't have noticed but I had them side by side.

Can anyone explain the difference between the type 1 and type 2 air filter cover on the 3400? The saw I picked up is a type 2 and the cover is missing.

Boy, I have a lot to learn. Never heard of a Type 2 3400. Interesting.

Can't help you on the Type 1 & 2 air filter cover differences. Seems to be a lapse in the updated IPLs for these saws.

Here are pics of the different clutches though, if you ever run across them.

I figured I would check poulan to see if they still had any in stock(they don't) and there are two part numbers, one for the type 1 and the other for the type 2.

Interesting. Of the many 3400's I've owned, I've never seen the clutch on the right. Learn something every day.

@#$% CAD >;-> acquired another Craftsman/Poulan - a grey 'Sears Best 2.8' (358.356220) which by the IPL is identical to roomie's tree-kill black 'Craftsman 3.3' (358.356330) in my 'round-tuit' pile (roomie dropped a tree too close and a branch wiped it out)

Oh. and best part...

Bought it from roomie's brother for $25 *RUNNING* (albeit a bit dirty) :hmm3grin2orange:

I believe your Craftsman is a poulan 2800 clone. Smaller than the 3.3

IPL shows the same P/C, Crank, etc as the 3.3 (3300 clone) just different plastic like it's a 'downrated-for-a-price-point' model same as the 4000's that were badged as "smaller" 3700's (same P/C means same bore, same crank means same stroke and ya gotta change one or the other to change the displacement... but whadda I know, I'm just a retarded err retired telecom tech that likes messing about with old saws... *shrug*)

Me neither, I think the previous owner must have swapped it out as the
shaft's threaded end is a good 1/4" short from the clutch outside when
fully tight. That's just not right, and could snap the shaft

Nevermind, SearsPartsDirect seems to be listing 2800 engine parts for *both* :dizzy: so either the 3.3 is really a 2800 or the SearsPartsDirect IPL is wrong... guess I'll have to pull plug&muff on both to measure stroke & bore to try to determine what either one is... that sucks moldy green donkey "whatevers"... :censored:

Some of the IPL's for these saws mention that the 11625 clutch spider is a 'part change' (but don't mention the superceded part number). They also show that spider along with the chainbrake parts.........................and the illustration shows that spider as being somewhat offset (not flat). I'm wondering if the offset spider was needed to work with chainbrakes, and Poulan just changed the spider on all saws in that series.

A while ago I put an Australian market chainbrake clutch cover on a 3400 that I had for a while. The chainbrake band didn't seem to line up well with the clutch drum, and didn't grab it very well when the brake was engaged. I sold that 3400, but kept the chainbrake clutch cover and will be trying it on my 4000 soon. I'm eager to see if it works better on that saw. I also have two 3400 parts saws with clutches, and will eyeball the spiders on them to see if they're flat or offset...

The 253747/6119 seal is also used on both sides of an XL-12/SXL series Homelite, both sides of a XL-700/800/900 series Homelite (SXL-925, etc) as well as the FW side of the C/XP/2000 series large frame Homelites (1050, etc) and the PTO side of a 10-series McCulloch. Probably others too (in addition to the 3400-4000/PP375-395 Poulans and the Ropers)...

If I think about it tomorrow, I'll drag the red 3.4 and the green 3.4 out for pics. The clutches are certainly different in appearance.
