I was perusing eBay tonight and had searched "vintage chainsaws". Lo and behold if I didn't find what I've been looking for. LINK I'd prefer it in Poulan colors without the Powersharp, but hey, beggars can't be choosers! This is a Dayton 2Z463, which is the same saw as the Poulan 245SA. It looks to have been used very little and supposedly runs great. I even scored a nice roller nose bar with it! Can't beat that with a stick. Now I just need a bow bar for it.

Nice looking saw brad. I sure love mine and you got a good deal to. I found mine in Mi for $50 off CL. Mine came with the 20" roller nose bar to and still has the label on it. I think it's gonna be a doner for the roller and one of my homelite hard nose bars. That should be a 404 bar brad.

Here is mine before it got the new 24" Powermatch Bar

Those seem to be nice saws...I recently bought one just like that one. I'm currently rebuilding the fuel system on mine. If that's the one I looked at on ebay you got it at a good price. I'm not putting mine on ebay because I don't think I could get what it was worth. It appears your auto-sharp has been disabled, as has mine.

Good find on the Orange 245SA Brad.

Thing is right here and now is a example of how every time you think you know something about these old saws, something pops up to contradict it.

With everything that I know , that saw should not be labeled a 2Z463, it should be labeled as a 2Z463B as it has the manual decomp.

Every non "B" that I have seen has been equipped with the auto decomp. I have the Poulan documentation to show the serial number breaks on the change over but not the Daytons.

Thing is without a history of that saw I still consider my thoughts to be accurate as that air filter cover may not be original, and the P/C could have been changed through the years and from what I can find the auto decomp cyl were replaced as a service part with the manual decomp model.

I know that I have a 2Z463 with a manual decomp as I changed it myself.

When I worked in a large factory we sometimes took liberties with parts, sometimes using an unofficial substitution in order to maintain production when the correct items we late in arriving. Not saying they did that here, just that it's not unheard of.

Where is the decomp on this saw?

Does the 380 have a decompression valve?

If I were to buy a new jug finding one with that on it is something I might want. When this 3500 kicks back it just about removes arm from socket.

If it kicks back it sounds like something is wrong with the timing. It may be somehow firing with the piston about 3/4 of the way up or so.

They're not all pretty

But it will be, and this saw has a lot of life left! How do you like the the ign switch? yeah Ill be fixing that. I always see plenty of the 2.1 saws with points. So when I spotted this 2.3 solid state I grabbed it. I bought it for parts ($10) but I checked it tonight and it threw a nice blue spark and comp feels real strong and the P/C look new. Dumped some mix in and popped right off. I also found out how loud these are minus the muffler. This will be a fun one for sure. Im just glad to get back to a Poulan after the last 2 jred fiascos I had on the bench! Makes you appreciate the Poulans even more.

Its true. Im looking forward to wrenchin on this 2.3. And that the vitals are so good on this saw make me really excited to do it. The payoff is when they are cleaned up running like new and ready to take on an ms 200. Next up are a 3.4 and 3.7 so Im on a roll for a while!
On a side not I found an NOS 20" Oregon power match fo the 4000. I'm really excited about that combo!

I opened up the muffler on one of my S25DA's and boy it is loud. However its much stronger than my stock one. Joe, I'm always impressed with these saws and how they cut.
