Looked at the coupling nuts. Looks like it would take some grinding to reduce the o.d. To a size that would match the piston pin. Hopefully they come small enough to help with the grinding. Those who have used them; did you thread the end of the poulan tool to accept the coupling nut or did you simply get the best size so the rod fits inside the nut? Will have to study the options once my tool arrives.

what
Just broke off a con rod bolt on a 245, but I'm glad it broke during re-assembly and not running...I can
get it out with a carbide bit in the mill, as I just pressed in a new Torrington WP bearing and don't
want to scrap it. Those are tiny little allen head fine thread grade 8 bolts.

Has anyone ever come across a torque chart for the 306/245 or even older 361 saw?
I do, add a little of the blue loctitie, tighten them as tight as you can get them with the little allen wrench and you be fine

Yikes! Be careful out there, frostbite can get you in a hurry if on a tractor pushing snow.
Only got a dusting up here but already have 10 inches on the ground. My Amish neighbor is stranded in Wisconsin, went there for a funeral, 25-30 below and fierce wind, Amtrak and busses are not running. I was supposed to pick him up at he Amtrak station in Grand Rapids on Tuesday.

Nice and warm in the cab of the truck!

Used the tractor for 15 minutes to clear out some doorways, when all of a sudden it was spitting antifreeze. The water pump went out...

Thought I might mess with some saws this afternoon but I guess not now.

ah....truck a good place to be. Wind has really picked up out here. Supposed to be 30-40 below wind chill this evening.
Do you have a warm place to fix water pump?
I went to deliver the message to my Amish neighbors kids telling them mom and dad aren't coming home and to get the horses rounded up out of the field and put them behind the barn out of the wind. In the 20 minutes I was gone my tracks completely drifted over. Open farm country, snow is blowing horizontal. Useless to even try to clear the driveway.

I hear ya Stephen, Right now its -12 & -40 wind chill. Snow been blowing all day. I not even been out of the house...LOL
I figure it wouldn't do any good to plow snow, even if I could get something started. :(

Doesn't look like tomorrow is gonna be any better. If the dang wind would knock off, a fella could get something accomplished. So I just stay in and feed the wood furnace. ;) If it does this all winter...I ain't gonna have enough wood. Yikes!

If you have a set of taps you could always bore a smaller nut out and re-thread it. It would be best if you could find the round ones.

Thanks but I'll snap every one off doing that, you must have small hands, LOL. Thinking about 60 to 70 inch lb is the maximum for a number eight grade eight. Those are special 36 TPI fine threads too.

Aren't you concerned when then Loctite runs out into the roller bearings ? There's no way of keeping it out.

! I went out to the barn and looked at my Poulans.....they don't look happy. Little ones all huddled together in a pile. Its so cold even the Stihl's are trying to buddy up to the Poulans for warmth.

I had a hard time to even get to visit a lot of my saws today. Most of them are in the back room of the shop. Here is a picture of the back of my shop and you can see how much snow was up against the door. Crappy picture through the windshield of the truck but I wasn't getting out just to photograph that. ;)20140106_082509 (Custom).jpg
