Interesting as all my 3400's have a centered pin. Wonder if there is a compression loss with the offset pin and square end rings.

The compression losses would be small, but I do like the half diameter offset pins like Stihl uses.

I overstated that P245 compression at 155#, as I checked it when I just built it and it had a lot of assembly oil in it. Now it only blows 140#.

That's a pretty good idea! What size socket do you use?


You pretty much have to select one that fits the clutch. My 285 uses the same clutch as a 335. For that I used a thick walled 3/4" impact socket. Any socket will do but if it's thin walled like most standard sockets you may have to go a little smaller. It's the ID that matters because that's what fits tight to the notches in the clutch.
It's not pretty but they're easy to make, work well and cut easily with a hacksaw.
