Got the piston and cylinder cleaned up and removed the carbon tonight. Used some oven cleaner and emory paper. Washed the cylinder with soap and water when I was done. The scoring on the one spot of the piston is smooth now.

Going to put everything back together tomorrow after work and see how she runs!

So was using RTV silicone a good choice when putting the cylinder back on or should I have used/use something else?

Just finished pulling the p/c removing the rtv and putting back together with permatex motoseal. Glad I did that for peace of mind. It says this stuff seals in 20 minutes but how long should I wait before I fire it up?

my local full service pro series Husky dealer uses high temp rtv on the saws they repair. When I was looking for a sealer to put my 350 back together I went into the shop area and talked to the mechanics. Nobody back there had ever heard of motoseal. They showed me what they use. All four mechanics working there told me the same thing. Since I am just a hack mechanic and they are professionals I just thanked them and mentioned politely that I didn't think it was a very good choice and went home.
Perhaps it would work O.K. The saws they fix are easy to get parts for, so if it fails it isn't the end ofthe world. The vintage old iron is acompletely different story. They are much more difficult to obtain the P&C's to fix a serious failure. Prevention is much more cost effective.

I'm really looking forward to running this saw Stephen, glad to hear they are a blast to run! I didn't want to chance it so I just took everything back apart last night and removed the RTV. Replaced it with Motoseal and reassembled. Can't wait to get off work and go home and see how it runs now!

Well........runs good! Just trying to get the idle and hi and low set right which is kinda tricky to get running the way it should. Throwing lots of bar oil so I need to adjust that too.
