Seriously?

Yeah seriously..

What you have there appears to be a rebuilt cyl and a aftermarket piston. That was not uncommon back in the day...

That cyl number crosses to a 3400 cylinder which was probably bored and plated to a 3700 bore size. Look at the hone marks on that cyl, factory wasn't like that.

The non staggered ring locating pins are another giveaway, I have seen that before on old stock Sunbelt kits before. Poulan never sold a P/C kit for a 3400-4000 either, you would have had to buy the pieces individually.

Do you have the original boxes that that P/C came in? That would tell for sure..

Well I ran a couple of tanks through my newly ringed s25da today pruning/blocking up a large tree in the yard. With the base gasket removed and the new rings from Otto's, it has fantastic compression. It ran very strong. The power is almost comical for the size really.

Now you need to mod the oil pump cover to get rid of an air leak, or simply send me yours & I'll send you back a modded spare I've got.

Yep, it was an off white box & ink stamped marked 3400, and there is no logo inside the piston. Sunbelt, live and learn, and thanks for the information.

That makes sense now, but lots of quality work went into the piston casting and bearing pocket work. Piston rings would be non-obtanium for sure. I'll edit that first post..

I'm planning to run it in a few weeks.

For all the doubting Thomases, this is a pic of a NOS 3700 Poulan thick ring aluminum piston & chromed bore 'kit'.

The piston skirt measures 1.872 & the bore is 1.876" diameter. The only marking is a Poulan logo & 28479 on the cylinder flange. The rings are standard 1/16" thickness, & it should run very well.

I'd never seen this on a production 3700 saw, so it may be a repair only kit.

I think the old Hoosier nailed it. Looks very similar to the P/C I found for my 5200 rebuild. Was a bored and re-chromed cyl. and after market piston. Was from a place in Joplin, Mo. if I recall.

Gregg,

I told the seller what they had and explained the difference to them and passed on it.

I think your doing a lot of work for nothing with those pump covers.

If you use the correct gasket in the correct place, the slot in that cover is a non issue..

It really never was to begin with till the years have gone by and the diaphragms got really old.

It only takes five minutes to mix up the epoxy, cut the flat stock, mill the plate & glue in the tab.
Come back the next day & sand it flat. What took the longest was disassembly & put back, as I did seven
or eight saws at once.

Pressure testing is a non issue, now they all pass w/o having to pull the oil pump cover & plug up
the impulse hole.

Just curious... How "rare" are the Wizard versions of the 3400-4000? Ran across a Wizard AV18 w/61cc's. I know there were all flavors of them in many colors but haven't seen one of those around here...

It's not listed anywhere now though... Gary musta called him and talked him into shipping it. Haha. Only wanted $45 for it. Wasn't looking forward to the 2.5 hours round trip myself. oh well
