Tightwad that I am, I just made a set of bar plates for my 4000 rebuild. Traced outline of both plates on appropriately thick sheet metal (happened to be galvanized) and cut it out with my Dremel. Drill holes with drill and smoothed the edges with grinder. Fits and works great. Done others in the past. Took about an hour for both. No muss, no fuss. Just sayin

Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a shot.

Putting my PP 375 back together. Used an extra 3700 p&c I had with new rings. Something is wrong. Extremely tight fit for the piston. Can hardly turn the flywheel hand. Is there any way my 3700 rings were mislabeled and they are 4000 rings? My guess is no but I'm stumped why it's so hard to install the cylinder and why it's so hard to turn over.

Take it back apart. Something is not right.

The P&c are oem. Rings are old, had them for a couple years. Agree I'm going to take it apart. Not sure what the problem is. Will keep everyone informed. Maybe I'll measure up the old cylinder and newer one to see if they are the same. Sure look the same.

thanks. ya never know what you'll find in adams co.
I am in Gardners and have so me big rounds here if you ever want to run that saw under a load.
Run the full bar see what it's made of . I have a 4000 that will give you something to compare it to.
It should blow it away tho. I hope to have my own 85 cc by the end of summer20160321_144915.jpg

Here is a 3400 I picked up today. It is the first actual Poulan branded one I've laid eyes on, never mind owned - rebadged versions seemingly more common in my neck of the woods.

It joins my craftsman badged 3.4 (actually 3700) and a Mastercraft badged one I have.

Told it has low hours, I'll check the top end out eventually.

Neat holes in the filter cover, and funky chain brake set up - neither of which I've seen before - even in photos.

$50 pick up.

That was my first impression - but whoever did it did a decent job spacing them out the same both sides. I have seen pictures of other saws like this with slotted covers, but not quite like this.. haha .. I might try and track down an unmolested replacement.

I fired the saw last night, and it's a screamer. Previous owner told me it was first purchased for use in the woods in the late 80's, but returned to the original vendor after a day or two in exchange for something else.

Then he purchased it, used it to cut a few cords, and then it was laid up for 10 years.

Cold with the fuel it came with it fired right up and seems in good tune. Definitely something I intend on taking a closer look at. It's destined for limited use, my 3700 does the bulk of my firewood work.
