Although I haven't used the red Homelite ones in this application, they work similarly. A bit smaller in fit.
If I'm seeing this right, the vent line where it goes over the connector nipple is what seals in the tank hole. The duckbill fits over nipple on the other end of the connector. That's how my other 3400 is also. The Homelite ones will work, but their a bit larger dia and you have to file the hole in the retainer out a bit for them to fit right.
Easier to use the correct ones

I thought the discussion was installing them in fuel caps.If I'm seeing this right, the vent line where it goes over the connector nipple is what seals in the tank hole. The duckbill fits over nipple on the other end of the connector. That's how my other 3400 is also.

On the 3400 the tank vent is a fuel line with a connector and a duckbill.I thought the discussion was installing them in fuel caps.
My father in law gave me this hatchet this last weekend for splitting kindling at our house for our outside fire pit. Pretty neat little hatchet, it's a Plumb, made in the USA. Seems fairly old, but don't know a ton about it.

ok. another 5200 question. according to acres it was made 1975-80. did later models come with a chain brake or was that an option in all years? thanks

Some of the 8500's did. I have an NOS chain brake that could be purchased from the dealers in Canada for the 4200 / 5200 saws.
All of the IPL's I've seen for the series show a chain brake in them. They're likely scarce in the US except for the 8500.
The 4200 / 5200 brakes do not fit on the later models and vice versa. Different size bar studs. I'm not sure of the bar stud center spacing is the same 5/16" to the 3/8" stud saws
