So guys I have a little bit of a problem. I cant seem to stop collecting saws. I was just glancing over Craigslist last night and found a bright red Craftsman 3.7 (Poulan 3700) for sale literally not even 3 miles from my house. I went over there today and picked it up for $60.

It came with the original plastic case, an 18" bar and chain, an extra chain which still had a tag on it from being sharpened at a local shop. From speaking with the guy and from the paperwork I found in the case, it looked like the saw had a new clutch put on and the chains sharpened in 2008 and sat since then. A few light tugs on the starter gave the feeling of VERY strong compression. The saw looks like it was barely touched. I bought it on site without even trying to start it. It got it home, checked the gas tank and found what looked like the remnants of some old mix that had turned into syrup. I was worried I might need to rebuild the carb. I rinsed out the tank with some fresh gas, added some fresh mix in and gave it a few pull starts. After about 5 pulls on full choke it burbled. 1 pull on half choke and BOOM! It fired to life. Ran it and a little bit of smoke worked its way out. Once the fresh mix was flowing through it, it was running like it had never missed a beat. I had to get back to work but I cant wait to check the compression on it. Comp feels much better than on any of my 4000s or 3400s. This is my first 3700 but for less than $1 a cc, I'm a happy happy camper. I've heard the 3700s run pretty similarly with the 4000s. Now if I can just find a nice 5400 at a good price! :dancing:

So I took out the new 3.7 (3700) to test it out today. The chain was definitely dull by the saw was also bogging down in the cut. I blew out the air filter with some compressed air and did a quick carb adjustment and the thing absolutely screams now. I checked the compression with my mighty vac gauge and it read 130. My other Countervibes all read about 120 on the same gauge so I'll take that as a respectable compression rating. It definitely screams a little more than the 4000 but doesn't have quite the torque as the 4000. It does feel more powerful than the 3400s for sure. The true test will be with a properly sharpened chain though. I'll also have to adjust the carb a little bit more. I was just testing it on some smaller oak rounds I have sitting next to the firewood pile so it wasn't the best test. It looks kinda cool in its fire truck red coat next to its lime green cousins though.

What is the story on this one lol? Is it yours and run? I am interested eventually if it is....

Its mine and runs gooooood. I am going to change the original fuel line it appears and original impulse line as a precautionary measure.

I was building 2 others. Then found this sweet one. I was just looking for parts saw LOL. I would probably sell the whole lot in the pic. ;) So I dont have to build the others.

Well, I need some time lol
The bore is 1.935" The 4000 rings are getting very scarce as are the 4900 / 7700 rings. It seems that no one is making small bore steel rings.

I don't like the sound of this...

I know all to well. ;) Hurt myself alittle buying a couple today.

Just getting ready for winter and have a friend wanting me to hook him up with the other I bought that needs fixed.

Want to buy all of my runners and builders in my biggies. All the parts and NOS stuff. Take a pretty penny or a heck of a trade.
