I made up some richer mix for the pp225 the other day at 40:1. I assumed maybe a little heavier oil mix than the 50:1 I normally use would be a good idea for this saw.
Today I was cleaning the saw (pp225) and I read this. Mix the saw gas at 8 oz of 2 cycle oil to 1 gallon of gas. Unless I am wrong that is 16:1 way richer oil mixture than the 40:1 I made the other day .
My question is do I really need to mix the gas for this little saw 16:1 ? If so not a big deal at all just wondering if the label was put on that saw back when oil was not maybe as good as it is today? I am mixing 50:1 for the other partners using the Stihl oil in the Orange bottles. Thanks Jeff

You will have no problem with a quality modern oil at 40:1. I use 40:1 in all my saws no matter what the vintage.

Here you go guys, the one is a super clean 3400, piston looks perfect. Fires on a prime, the other I believe is like a 335, even cleaner, owner said his dad bought it new, used it a couple times and put it in the barn. And it definitely shows it.

And the grand total for both saws is...... 15 bucks!

That is how both saws looked, I haven't touched as far as cleaning20170304_151012.jpg

I took the 3400 apart last night for a good cleaning and found the plating is mostly worn off the piston.

Does anyone know the bore specifications for the 3400 so I can mic the cylinder and see if all I need is a piston, or if I need to find a better cylinder as well?

Mark
Bore for the 3400 is 1.810". I may have a used piston. I also have two NOS P&C for the 3400 and I believe a 3700 P&C (used).
