I ran the 306A a bit today, even with the low compression it pulls the 20" bar pretty well. Not sure what to do with this one.

I picked up a Poulan 4000 today. I haven't had time to look at it, because I'm on vacation but it is a high top model. I will likely need a new filter. I wonder if it's different than the 3400/3700 filter.

Yes it is different. You will see once you pull it.

Poulan pro 455 up and running well The walbro WJ - 9 would not clean up not sure why so for now it's running on a
Tilltson HS-260 The linkage fit perfect and this saw will be in the rotation

I think so, Stephen may correct me, but think all the covers are the same, just use the nylon filter and the high top filter cover
