The 445 and both 4000 pulleys are PENDING

I guess this facetime stuff does have it's uses on phones. Tore into 445 for inspection to show new owner a collector wanting this saw last night.
Will snap some pics in a bit. Amazed how strong the witness lines were on the piston. All looked new in there.

The one that no longer has the full wrap. FW sold too.

Close to going to a new owner.
Pic before, during cleaning a bit and testing. Found oem nos deflector for clutch cover too. Then found rivet for it. Weird they used that. Also threw in a extra mesh filter for new owner with those other 2 too.

Never looked like this while I was using it. :cheers: Even places I seen I missed in pics got cleaned. Trigger etc etc.

Before I start doing something I shouldn't, does the fuel line nipple pop or turn off to replace the line and filter on the 306A?
My recollection is no. Would have to look at my 306a and 245 to confirm. I believe there are two differant size fuel lines to use. One for inside the tank and the large one from the tank to carb.
 
So, I recently came across a factory Poulan 3400 bow saw at a reasonable price. It was in pieces, had a damaged fuel tank, and needed fuel lines. The fellow had bought it from the original owner to use, lost interest, and decided to sell. Someone had put a hole in the tank when trying to fix/repair/replace the AV mount on the right hand side of the handle. Tapped the hole to a larger diameter, and I need to figure out how to remedy this. Thoughts from y'all on how to do this are appreciated.

I went through it and replaced the bow specific chain catcher with a NOS piece I had. Other odds and ends, including a replacement tank, and it sure does run well! The fellow didn't have change so for the $5.00 he owed me, he threw in a Poulan 295 Pro. Here are some before and after pics.

This weekend I found a Poulan 245A that was just a few miles from my house. The price was reasonable so I went and looked at it. Fellow had a few later model Poulan's and a fair to decent Craftsman 3700. It need's pieces and work. The 245A has a ton of compression and had been sitting for many years. The saw was bought new by his Dad and he scraped his last name, Stepp, into the paint. I think it'll clean up nicely. Nice air filter, and look at the line from the carb to the tank. That's original, right? I'm thinking a good amount of use, but not too much. Here are some pics from yesterday.

Bump, anyone.

If this post is in reference to the fuel fitting/nipple 5300-23001 that goes into the tank wall, Bob (redunshee) is correct in that the fitting stays put & the top cover needs removed to access the in-tank hose. Made of soft aluminum, it’s easily deformed if you try to pull it out.

Try not to get any fuel on the obsolete cork cover gasket -19005 sandwiched inside there, and then use some blue Hylomar or grey Motoseal sealant for insurance when you put it back on.
 
Well I got the carb kit in and rebuilt the carb. I decided to put the saw together and run with a bar and chain to see how it is doing. I tached it at 13,100 RPM's. I have only about a 1/3 of a tank of fuel through it and have not checked the compression. It will take a lot more running to get the rings seated in.
I am still going to do crank seals and advance the timing a little. For now it runs pretty good holds good in the wood and I am happy with it so far.
