Had a poulan labeled chain with it too.

Added = Todd said it all was .050

Yep, I’ve got a couple of those NOS, but the gauge is 0.063”, I guess for running 404 chain...

Is that one on your 5200 an 0.063” ?

Nope, This one is .50 gauge.

Took a couple of pics, but these are not the same bars as yours.

They’re stamped (5300) #44109 & are 32” long with .404 sprocket tips. Stihl yellow 46RM chain.



EDIT: I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the #027FV4 Tsumura 20” - 3/8” - 0.050”echo/poulan bars that have a bit larger profile to allow you to run the common 72 DL chains, instead of the oddball 70 DL. Fit & function well on the 3700/4000 saws too!

More or less from memory just need a S clip and a file to elongate the adjuster a bit. Just from memory its been ages

They fit Mac's easy too which is handy. But Mac bars don't fit the 4000 the tail is too narrow

It is a 3/8 .050 x 27.5 .that saw and bar are the perfect combination.

Will bars for the Husqvarna 365,372,395 saws fit the Poulan 4000?

Dan, Its kind of a yes and no thing with the Poulan/Husqvarna bar swap. I had some round wire spacer thingies, I think I got from Mark long time ago, that made them fit the bar studs. My problem with switching Husky bar & chains to a Poulan is the drive link count. Swap directly and the chain will be to long on the Poulan. I have one 4000 that I keep a 24" Husky on, that just works. All other I have tried , just to long to adjust. Hence the 72 & 70 drive link difference mentioned by Hotshot.
So if you get a shorter chain, it will work. Trouble is, now you are usually dealing with an oddball length chain and .58 gauge as most Huskys are. So my answer is yes, you can set a 4000 up to run a Husky bar, but not easy to just swap directly to a Poulan. I think Poulans bar studs are located closer to crank (clutch) than on Huskies.

Here is one example of an original bar Poulan used on the 5200. I'm sure there are probably other styles out there.They made the 5200 for a number or years, so probably several variations out there would be my guess. I can't say as to what years they were used. This one is a 30" bar, which I think I paid like $77 for back in 2012-13. They were made by Windsor & used the S-clip on the bar studs.

Thanks! That is exactly the one I was looking for. I had a fairly clear picture in my mind, but, clear is relative to age anymore...
I have a 5200 that my dad bought me in 1981 ish, but its not exactly the prettiest saw. The one that is on its way is siezed, but looks showroom fresh. I figured it would look good prominently displayed on a shelf in the shop.

So Gregg I just want to know one thing. When you first showed that paint job on the 4000 on here did they give you any crap.
You have the blue and white all you needed was a little red to make patriotic.

Thanks Gregg, it seems 24" Husky mount bars are less expensive than Poulan mount bars so I may go that route. I've got a supply of the "s" clips to make them fit and I've got several rolls of .058 gauge chain so by making my own chains I should come out ahead. I really need one saw with a 24" bar.

LOL, Roger, that was a long time ago when I did those odd paint jobs on a couple saws. Got a little grief but not terrible as I recall. That 4000 was just a trash case when i got it. Intake mounting boss of cyl. was busted off and gone. I JB welded the crap out of it, thinking it would never work, let alone last. It has done real well!!! Been a few years since I used it though.
The story behind my color choices on three saws I cobbled up, were my being a life long lover of Ford & New Holland farm equipment. I did one in Ford blue & gray, one in Ford fed & gray matching my 8n. And one in New Holland yellow & red to match my combine. LOL I know...goofiness.

Well the saw rejected the paint job. I gave it to my brother in law and it ran choppy right away. I remember I bought it as a parts saw, and when I got it piston was perfect and a thin ring (was listed as a 3800) had no decals and missing parts. Now I would get the parts and restore it. Back then....

I remember that picture Gregg of the three saws from quite awhile back. Back then there might have been a few die hard poulans guys that would have cringed at those colors. Just stirring things up a bit.

It is good to see some of those old pics and some people here might not have seen them before.

And Joe an 037, I have to say that cracked me up.
