Join the club, Gregg. I don't think there's a great deal of knowledge floating around about an A900. That's why it's cool to get to work on one. You have to learn to fly it by the "seat of your pants." If you check it out on Acres, he doesn't include very much info on it and even what he has is not complete. For example, he lists the chain pitch as 9/16". This one is 1/2".
Model Profile: A900

That is quite the ornery looking contraption Steve. I was wondering the same thing Bob mentioned. Whether it can be switched around to a right hand configuration? I'm guessing not. That thing makes me feel older than I am. I was born in 1953 also.:)
I wonder if MrBowsaw out there in California has one like that? He probably would be a good source of knowledge with that, if not parts. That would be a fun GTG saw..LOL

Gregg,

Man you are ancient! 1953! How do you get around? Hmmm. Lets see in 1953, I was 8 yrs old. However due to good genes I feel like 45. Don't know how long it'll last though.

LOL, I prefer to get around, with something that has a motor on it. You & Steve must be the Senior members here.

I don't do to bad when it comes to wood cutting etc. Just need to take a LOT more breaks than I used to.:msp_biggrin:

Gregg,

Not a recognition I'm anxious to acknowledge. Heading to VT. this Wed for a week of snowmobiling. Unlike last year there is almost too much snow (36 in. on ground) unless you use groomed trails which we don't. Oh well, we'll have the young guys break trail and I'll follow.

That sounds like a good time !!! That is something I have never tried. There are a number of guys around here that take there machines up to Michigan, and have some grand times bar hopping by sled. This winter I have seen more of them around here than in the past. Had more snow here this winter too.
Think I will stick to chainsaws. That money pit is deep enough for me! LOL

This little S25CVA is giving me fits. I put the new crank seal in it this morning. The 5510 seal works great. Once I had that leak fixed, I found a couple more. I fixed those and have the saw running, but something's not quite right. It just doesn't rev out cleanly. It almost sounds like it's a little rich, but I've leaned it out as far as I dare and it still does it. I'm wondering if it could be something in the ignition. This one has points. I did clean the points while it was apart. I also replaced the spark plug today. Any thoughts or ideas?

another carb?

Looks to be laying flat and sealing.

if i have a spare carb i always throw a different one on to rule it out for me 9 times outta ten its that ! but compared to you and the other guys on here im really a novice so maybe they can help ya better for me this takes out the guess work same thing with the reed asemply if i got one i swap each thing out and try it till i figure it out!!! hope this helps you!

That looks an awful lot like a Poulan 1950 that I helped a friend do his fule lines in. PoulanPro still has parts for these online through ordertree.

What did you have the gap set at on the points? Is there any gap at the end of the reed valve and if so is it more than ten thousandth. I would pull the carb and recheck. That is just my opinion. Good luck.

Point gap was between .016"-.020". I don't have a feeler guage in between those two. I think I used them as spacers on another project:)

I don't believe there was any gap at all on the reed.

Don't know Brad. Did you run it with the carb cover on and it still did it? That's one of the issues I have with the saw is the inability to tune the carb with the cover on. Don't really know if it would affect the saws performance however. Waiting to hear other comments. I doubt the pointswould be the cause seeing how you cleaned and set it.

I recall points gap is .017 so you're in the ballpark. My reed valve is also flush with reed body.

Another Old Poulan Lives again!

Been working on one of the 3 saws I recently acquired. This 306A has the electronic ign. Took it apart, cleaned it up, replaced fuel lines, filter, rebuilt carb, etc. The 20" Windsor bar, chain, sprocket all seem good. So will just leave them on it. Got it running today. Still needs some adjusting. Will hold off on that till get some better weather, and get to the woods.:)

Gregg,

Looks great Greg, at least you can still see the pool in your yard. Mine is completely invisible under all the snow here.
