Point gap was between .016"-.020". I don't have a feeler guage in between those two. I think I used them as spacers on another project:)

I don't believe there was any gap at all on the reed.

Contact surfaces need to be clean and dry (no oil). I drag a strip of copy paper thru them when closed.

The long fuel line would make 'em run lean if anything.

Mine had electronic ign.

Brad,

The way those saws are set up you have to tune them pretty lean, and they richen up considerably when you reinstall the cover.
You are probably like me and trying to set it where it should be then when you install the top cover that is richening it back too far.

That's not it either. I've gone both rich and lean with it. It's still breaking up, reguardless of the tune or load on the saw. I'm going to go back and tighten the point gap up a little and try that. I'm also going to see if my S25DA has points or electronic. If points, I can swap ignitions. I can swap the carb from that saw too.

Been working on one of the 3 saws I recently acquired. This 306A has the electronic ign. Took it apart, cleaned it up, replaced fuel lines, filter, rebuilt carb, etc. The 20" Windsor bar, chain, sprocket all seem good. So will just leave them on it. Got it running today. Still needs some adjusting. Will hold off on that till get some better weather, and get to the woods.:)

That's a mighty fine 306 there Gregg. Very minty indeed.

That's what I was thinking, but I think normally they just completely fail.

Brad is this saw the same as Nik's Dayton?

I have no idea Andre.

That looks an awful lot like a Poulan 1950 that I helped a friend do his fule lines in. PoulanPro still has parts for these online through ordertree.

OK thanks friend I'll take and see what i can find.i might even order a other piston and cylinder for it and my craftsman 36 cc saw too

This little S25CVA is giving me fits. I put the new crank seal in it this morning. The 5510 seal works great. Once I had that leak fixed, I found a couple more. I fixed those and have the saw running, but something's not quite right. It just doesn't rev out cleanly. It almost sounds like it's a little rich, but I've leaned it out as far as I dare and it still does it. I'm wondering if it could be something in the ignition. This one has points. I did clean the points while it was apart. I also replaced the spark plug today. Any thoughts or ideas?

I am no wiz at tuning for sure but when I had this problem on one of my saws the welch plug was leaking...

Brad, without being there and hearing it, it sounds like ign to me.

Go through those points again and set em dead nuts .017"

BTW package went out today.

Gregg,

Gregg, thats a wonderful looking 306A.

Very nice.

The way you and I are going, we ought to go in together on a truckload of Tillitoson carb kits. Maybe we could get a better deal in bulk? :msp_laugh:
