Well personally,

I would call Melvin and say hey dum bass I need a set of thick rings for a Poulan 4000!!!

They are _____mm in diameter and _____mm in thickness with a _____end.
Let me know when you get them in!!!LOL
But that is one of the perks of having the worlds greatest dealer!!!

As I said earlier today Bob ....."When it comes to Poulans, NOTHING is set in stone".
I also know for a fact that I worked on a 3400 for an old man years ago that he bought new that had THIN rings. I have since learned that it could have been a 3700 that was badged and sold as a 3400. I did not check the bore and wouldn't have known what to look for at that time in my life anyway, but I know it had thin rings and came from the dealer with all 3400 decals on it.

I was going to buy a Poulan Pro 335 but as I was conversing with the seller, (a AS member no less) someone hit the buy it now on it.........

Yep!

We've GOT to get Darin to delete this thread!
We drove the prices of 3400/3700/4000s through the roof, then 4200/5200/7700/8500s and now the 306/245s are climbing fast!

Yes, I put a feeble bid in on one of the 245's, but didn't figure it would make it. Was a dandy looking saw. Someone should have a beauty when done.

The days of cheap Poulans on ebay are over i'm afraid. I suppose if your a seller, thats a good thing. But, I don't want to sell, I want more Poulans..LOL:dizzy:
Gregg,

Dave, You got a couple real nice saws there! Very nice finds. I see you have been bitten bad by the Poulan Bug!! :msp_ohmy: There ain't no cure either, that I know of..
Gregg,

You said that right Greg, as my basement fills up with saws, I continue to find myself looking on craigslist and ebay for the next find........Lol:D

Oh and my wife loves the fact that I own about 20+ chainsaws ;)

Wow there is a 245A on ebay right now with 3ms left going for $227, with $45 shipping, damn I'm not biting on that one.

That's the one! I'd better ask as I put in a bid.

I had looked at that one also. Now that I know you are looking I will not worry with it. I was going to ask him for better pics as I have never seen a 4000 with out a chrome cylinder. I was only looking for another good piston. Like said before the best thing to do is ask him to measure the bore size. I have seen the 4000 with both thin and thick rings.

3800

Well here is my Craftsman 3.7/20 (3800 Poulan). I'd say aside from the unplated bore this saw has plenty of power, the original owner bought it new in 1987 and used it to buck firewood for years, he had the saw serviced at a local saw shop every year, and it looks it as it is in mint condition. This was a craigslist find for $60, he even kept using the safty chains Lol.

Both saws look good. I have one of the gray 3700/3800 also. I will post some pics when I get it back together. Yours looks much better than mine as mine came in a box. After looking at it I do not know why it was apart to begin with as the P/C look better than some of the saws I am running. I do like getting those box saws as you never know what you will get.

That saw sold for $232 with $45 shipping, $277.00, daaaaamn thats a lot of money for an unrestored saw, I like the 245 but would no were in hell pay that kind of money for it.

I don't know what it is with Poulans, could be my pop buying his first 30+ years ago when I was child, .................or could be the fact that the Husky and Stihl snobs hate them so much that I love em so much..... hahahah Lol:msp_flapper: Or could be that a 30+yo saw matches quite well against a $600+ dollar modern saw.......

Damn missed on 5200 on craigslist, guy said it sold this morning, $200.

Got this one running yesterday

Here's another s25da saved from the scrap pile.It had good spark and would run with a prime.Checked out the fuel line and filter, line looked good but the was filter was gone.Pulled the carb and the screen was completely plugged up.Took out the mix screws, blew everything out with air,re-assembled and it fired right up.Had a NOS 14" b&c for it,and here's how it came out. Aaron, I forgot the laughing smiliy behind that quote, more or less kinda joking while making a point.

Yes I was in the business in the late 70's early 80's and remember those briggs cylinders very well. I'm not sure were comparing apples to apples though as those motors had a crappy splash oiling and most were always run with plugged or missing air filters as well.

I have no doubt your your own man and not easily influenced.

No worries Mark. Thanks for wording that last bit the way you did. My wife just says I'm stubborn...:D

You said it. The Poulans I've been bidding on lately have gone crazy...:jawdrop:

So how much does that translate into my "collection" being worth?

Gary, Don't you know that they have no value once you have them! They are worth something, only when you are buying them.

Gregg,

Gregg's exactly right Gary. Tellyawhat...............I'll give you $100 (shipped) for the lot!!!:ices_rofl:
