That saw sold for $232 with $45 shipping, $277.00, daaaaamn thats a lot of money for an unrestored saw, I like the 245 but would no were in hell pay that kind of money for it.

Honestly, if that was the saw I was looking at I won't say it went for way too much. I mean it was way above average, I would say excellent condition. Where would you find another like that?

Depends how bad someone wants something.

To be honest I probably have close to that in my Dayton/245 that I got too far wrapped up into then to be able to stop. That was complete rebuild with NOS piston, cyl etc. I don't regreat it, the 245 are my favorite saws and I love running it.

I know one thing, I would not take $277 for this one.

Here's another s25da saved from the scrap pile.It had good spark and would run with a prime.Checked out the fuel line and filter, line looked good but the was filter was gone.Pulled the carb and the screen was completely plugged up.Took out the mix screws, blew everything out with air,re-assembled and it fired right up.Had a NOS 14" b&c for it,and here's how it came out. Dan

Nice job Dan, those are dandys.

It must be the CASO (Cheap A$$ Saw Owner) in me, but it seems the prices I have been paying are less than the market prices that are being quoted here. Certainly all are not pristine, but many of them are solid and most are running (or capable of it with a little work). Am I just more of a bargain shopper or have I been extremely lucky?

Probably a little of both and seem to be just in a good chainsaw area as well.

I mean how many old chainsaws are still laying around in the NW Indiana, South West Chicago area that I live in compared to where your at.

The farmers around here logged with a bull dozer.:msp_blink:

I finally got around to installing this old Nova module I had laying around on my points S25CVA. This is the one that was breaking up when it got hot. The saw fired right up, requiring no ignition re-timing at all. I haven't had a chance to put in wood, since it was raining all day. I'll be surprised if it's not fixed though. I bolted the module to the bottom plate, directly under the coil. It was a very easy install. Now I need to go back in and remove the points and condenser. I'm still waiting on a couple new auto oiler diaphragms I ordered, as well as a new rim/drum.

Brad, that don't surprise me that the Nova module probably fixed it. Like I said, those coils are pretty reliable. For the cost of the Nova its probably cheaper then a NOS set of points and condensor.

While waiting on the diaphragms make sure the inlet check valve under the pump is clean and working right as well. I have seen them plugged up there before.

Ok I picked up a 3400 Poulan last week. Disassembled it today and boy was it nasty. Muffler was caked with stuff like glue. These must be tough as nails in concrete. How does the oiler work? I understand the manual pump but how does it auto oil. I can't find a mechanism for and auto oiler. Oh and is there a manual for this thing? Anyway thanks

Another S25CVA brought back to life :)

Had to open up the shop to sell a $15 MacCat to a kid ( old enuf to drive ) that wanted to tear it apart and see what made it tick and try to put it on a bicycle, ran too ! no b&c tho..
so i turned on the heat and saw :) a S25cva looking for attention..had force fed it a couple weeks ago and it fired..
I seen some attention being paid to these lately so i investigated..
Yup,the usuall, bad fuel line..fixed that..darn !, now a carb kit so apart and in the USC while i tried to starighten out some of the mess the shop is always in :( not much luck there i'm afraid..
on/off switch gone, need to put one in,good time while i had the flywheel off to replace fuel line, pull the coil to make room and no prob.
Saw has a walbro "wa" carb on it..several differances from the "wt" carb..
have to remember on the "wt" carb the "low" needle is "L-onger".. on the "wa" the longer needle is the hi speed side..I also hate it when somebody rebuilds one and puts a WT fuel pump in the WA !! they are diff also..and setting the metering lever is differant as the walbro tool dont really work..no welch plug set down on the WA,has a cover and a gasket that sits above the carb floor on one side to cover the low speed holes. so the tool rocks and is inaccurate..
So,fuel line in,carb rebuilt, found the clutch stuck..actually the bearing froze..off that came and a parts saw donated a bearing, greased up well on it went..
Now i think,,hhmmm.. if this runs i have to check the oiler ?? to heck with it !! off comes the clutch !! i dont want to put it all together then have to take it apart to work on the oiler so off comes the clutch !! dont want that thing running loose and have to chase tracks thru the snow trying to find pieces like LAST time :)
fill it with mix ans thinned bar oil and outside into the cold cruel world we go with my squirt can of mix..i aint one for pullon :) to much so down the thoat i feed it..
OFF it fires !! set the idle and adjust the hi and lo and we are happy..
clutch back on,b&c on and back out into the cold for fine tuning.. happy with how it turned out i drained the fuel and ran it dry for storage.
back in the shop to put it next to another little green one i did a couple years ago i noticed IT was also a CVA,didnt know it was and now i have two !
noticed the first one has a hand guard on it,is that original ?? the new one dont have it..
heres a pic..the older one in back is unrestored, hardly a scratch on it,maybe none.
the new one is in front and still in pretty fair shape..
make a nice pair i think.

Read his handle again... it is Dumb Arky (as in Arkansas). Actually, he might like Barky better...

That funny. I picked dumbarky cause people move here from other states and tell us how they did it in so and so state. Then they tell us how everything we do is wrong and this and that. Then they call us dumb arky's. You got to just smile and let it go. It takes more intellect to listen and process than to just yak. I'll answer to anything especially around lunch and dinner time. Thumbs up Casey is my name.
