I Looked Up The Cylinder P/n On Sears Parts It Is 12066 Same As 3400
Hope that Helps
Not to muddy the waters but that is also the cylinder # for model 358.356081 which is a 3.0 c.i. that looks identical to the 3800 on the front of the user manual.

I agree but am also confused. How can a 3.0 saw use the same cylinder as a 3.4 saw, which I think the 080 series is or worse a 3800 as you state.
Bob
Just because Sears is listing the same cylinder as "replacement for" doesn't mean thats the same one that came on the saw. Consider that fact that when many of these are replaced, they are replaced in matching sets, P/C, and its easier for them to stock one rather than four or five, and many home owners couldn't tell the difference anyway.
Howdy, color restoration using powder coating was brought up in the yellow thread and I thought I'd post some pics of a color we came up with mixing powder for the green saws. I know a lot of y'all are restoring for looks as well as performance and I want to put the best finish on my saws too. Here are a few pics of the green we came up with.
My 306 was mostly just wiped down. I haven't disassembled it to give it a good cleaning yet.

Looks good to me! Are you taking orders yet? otstir:

Yes to a point but the IPL list the piston and cyl seperate not as a set.
I don't believe that they ever made a 3.0 saw on that chassis.
Yeah they are listed separate. I know what the repair center stocked as I worked in a Sears for a while, and knew a half dozen techs doing the repairs. They stocked 3.7's, and ordered the bigger one if they needed it. Otherwise, "best practice" was to install new piston and cylinder, adjust carb, placate customer.
I am pretty sure that if you have seen a 5200 eating wood, then you have seen an 8500 doing the same thing. The motor is the same size. The handle bar and the fuel tank are the biggest differences that I have noticed. Perhaps Modified Mark or someone with experience with the Poulans could elaborate. I don't think there is enough of a difference to make any difference, except for the fact that the guy running the 5200 is going to have to stop a little more often for fuel mix.
Either one of these saws can work you to death. They just won't slow down.:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:
Anyway is the cylinder cover the right color?? Also this saw has a 5400 bowsaw clutch cover on it.
