I will have to find some wood that isn't burried in snow!

I have 4 foot snow drifts in front of my shop door, :msp_cursing: I haven't been out there in a while.

I live only a couple miles from my local Dolmar dealer. I see that he has some good looking test logs next to his shop. I will give him a call and see if he will let me cut a couple of cookies. He seems like a great guy and he would probably get a kick out of playing with an old Poulan.

We have been having sub zero temps in the morning lately and I have been staying pretty close to the heat stove and the computer. If we get some warm days this week end I will see what I can do. :msp_rolleyes:

LOL, I hear ya Stephen. I havn't been into the wood yet either. I have a number of saws I want to test run. Like you, waiting on the weather to straighten up. One day everything is buried under snow, or it starts melting and just a sloppy muddy mess. Can't even get to the woods.:msp_mad:

Gregg,

Yeah, we talked last weekend about it, but this weekend is the last one for ice fishing inside, and a good weekend for it.

Hello fellas...I hope I am still welcome here, since i am trading off my 5400. One of my buddies called me a little while ago, he claims that one of his buddies has a bunch of old saws. He claims that there is an old Polan that is at least as big as the 5400. He says that there is the number 33 on it. I am wondering if its a 33 super. It is in parts, so not sure if its worth getting into. I will know more on Sunday possibly.

I will try to post some pictures of what is there. I know there is a Homelite 55 whiz , thats the only picture he sent to me.

Coupe questions

OK guys, I picked up a Craftsman on the bay and can't figger which one it is. It's gray, with the model number 358.356080 Looks to be a low hour saw, and has plenty compression and excellent AV bushings. Looks to be a fuel line/filter carb kit to make a runner. It really doesn't matter if it is a 3400 or 3700 to me. Just glad to have another in the garage. Also, will the clutch drum on a 3400 fit a 306A? If so, I'll put the spur that is on it on the 306, and get a rim sprocket for the Craftsman.

Thanks in advance.

If it's grey and looks like the 3400-4000 saws, it's a 3.7 with the unplated cylinder and plated piston. Have the exact same one, nice saw.

What you have is probably a 3800 and no the clutch drum will not fit a 306A.

I'm pretty sure it's a 3700CV. Maybe this will help

No snow down here right now….and this big Water Oak blew down last week (you are looking at just one half of it), so anyone wanting to “try out” their saw is welcome!

My 4900 has plenty of power…but has only a 24” bar on it.

An 8500, 36” bar and a skip chain would make me happier right now.

The saw pictured measures 42” from tip of bar to end of handle (for reference).

This is the first time I’ve had more tree…than I had saw. When I get finished…..I still have the OTHER half (in background) to deal with.

On another note….anyone here get the 3700 with the 24” bar on ebay yesterday, looked like a pretty clean saw.

Flint.

Poulan S6000

This may not be the place to ask.
But i'm in desperate need of a bar cover for a
Poulan S6000, Same as a Sachs Dolmar 153
but in green colors.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry Lee, I can't help you as I have been looking for one of those covers myself.

Of course the cover I'm looking for will still have the rest of the 6000 attatched to it. :msp_rolleyes:

I seen a pic of your 8500. MAN that thing is nice. Where did you find it?

I'm pretty sure its not. Like I said, if its a 3.7 then its probably a 3800.

I think the bore is like 1.785 so pull the muffler and check. Thick rings, chrome piston and that bores size would be a 3800.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Yup!

Check for the above, and if found.... Mark is correct (he usually is).

If you find a Chrome Bore and Aluminum piston...then its probably a 3700.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he is. I won't get to check the bore until Saturday though. I figured the Sears model number could be cross checked fast enough to be sure. Anyhow, I am confused about the 3700/3800 ...so a Craftsman 3.7 could be either...I got that now. For some reason, I was thinking the 3800 was in the same family as the 3600. Going back to an earlier post, I guess I can take away the gray ones are 3800, and the 3700 is red? Or, am I thinking too hard here?:dizzy:

I got it from the origional owner. His nephew put it on craigs list for him without a picture or a model number. It was listed as a large old saw. I called him hoping for a 4200. When he said it was an 8500 I told him I wanted it, sight unseen. He told me what he thought it was worth and I was happy to pay it. He said he paid a little over $600 for it new. I don't have any idea if that is true but the saw was a bargain to me. I am very happy with it. It needs a new clutch cover decal and that is about it. I did have to drive about 400 miles to get it but it was well worth the effort and expense.

I bet he did. I found this on the web:

Good to see ya again Flint! I would think your 4900 would have enough butt to handle a 28-30" bar, especially with skip chain, for an occasional job like that. Be a lot cheaper than buying, or finding an 8500. LOL
Oh, by the way, I did not buy the 3700 on ebay. :msp_biggrin:

Even if it turns out to be a 3400, I won't complain. I had a 3400CV but sold it for a tidy profit, and regretted it. A 3.7 would just be gravy.
