The 056 Magnum II I put back together for a guy that cuts ice was a beast, but until way larger wood, I bet the Poulan will keep up, and may be easier to handle.

This saw is quite a bit larger that the poulan also. A 056 or 056 super is closer to size of the poulan.

I tuned it with an 18" bar, full chisel, and I could of stood on the saw in frozen ash and not slowed it down. Since I have the ignition from the parts saw, I may have to find the rest. I would take the 8500 in a heartbeat. If it cuts anywhere close to as fast in the same wood its one hell of a saw.

You'd like the 5400-8500! Power out the AZZ!

I figured you guys might like to see the pics of this. I'm gonna start a thread to for the rest that do not frequent this thread.

I got lucky a few weeks ago and was able to snag 2 of the NOS 33" poulan bars in large dolmar mount specifically for this series saw. I had a new 36" carlton bar on here I modified that was meant for large stihl but this just puts the icing on the cake.

I'm pretty sure its not. Like I said, if its a 3.7 then its probably a 3800.

I think the bore is like 1.785 so pull the muffler and check. Thick rings, chrome piston and that bores size would be a 3800.

And that is what it is. Even though someone pointed out that the 080 series was supposed to be 3400, this has the plated piston and the 1.78" bore...

All cleaned up and running.

Still needs a little more tuning, and I will get it a brand new 20" bar and Stihl chain. The 24" was just for testing.

Thanks to all for the helpful information.

Very, Very nice! Wildman, That bar does wonders for the saw. I tried bidding on a couple of bars like that couple weeks ago. Didn't get either one. Obviously I didn't dig deep enough into the pockets. That has to be the best looking example of a 6000 I have seen. Great job!!!
Gregg,

Gregg,

These were BIN. I grabbed 2 of the 3. Thanks for the kind words to. I may be a homelite guy but I have a soft spot for this saw.

Homelite built some damn fine saws.....they weren't Poulans, but what is???

The 750 is one of the most impressive saws I've run that wasn't a Poulan. It looks like it would weigh two pounds less than a full grown cow but it is actually very manageable.
About the only red saw (that series) I'd care to own.

Unfortunately Mike I've got a hankering for a 750. Good to hear your thoughts.

and by the way - I doubt that 361 with the auger will be a keeper for me. I'll try to keep you all informed when I give it a test run in the next week or two.

1st dibs on the auger! I have a buddy coming up from GA at the beginning of the week, what do you say?

Good luck with that, that first dibbs stuff don't work. I tried it on some guy who found a Dayton branded 5200 and you see how that worked out. :ices_rofl:

That auger is a nice find, I wonder what brand it is and who made it?

I'm with you Mark! I got dibbs on the next great big old Poulan that shows up on this thread that is to big or heavy or powerful or ugly, that someone doesn't have a use for. :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

The difference is in the intentions of the owner! Last person who asked about that saw thought it was a Husky!

Anybody know anything about the Super33?

Got it running this morning. Seems like a neat saw for it's age. A lot lighter then it looks, seems well built. Typical slow with lots of torque and smoke.

Were they very common?
