But first to Mark and Mitch.
Mark, awesome job on that 306. That is one awesome saw and I am still looking for one.
Mitch, thats a great score. NOS saws are the best!
Here's the last of the seven saw haul I had.
She in rough shape boys. Looks like it spent some time outside as there is some oxicdation on the saw, the bar is an original roll tip that is rusted solid but Im gonna try to make salvage it. The bar cover is cracked bad and can't be saved, thats ok since I have a spare. The muffler is junk looks like someone modded it with tin snips. I cant get it off yet since the screws are rusted solid. I can kinda see into the port and while its carboned up bad the piston looks good. Compression feels good havent checked spark yet. Not sure it the decomp is working or not. Itf its not I hope its stuck closed! I have at least 4 projects before this one but Itll get done!

Joe thats going to be a project but one that would be worth it.

For your sake I hope the decomp isnt a problem but that auto decomp setup can be trouble.

I seen a hardly used one that leaked like a sieve. I ended up plugging the decomp on it all together. Had to cut the original plunger off, thread the cyl and put in a set screw to hold the shortend plunger in. You would also need to switch out the throttle lock on it.

If there good there ok to live with.

When you get that far, I can probably come up with a muffler cover for it.

Thanks Mark. Im a big fan of the 245a saws, And I know you are too. 13lbs and 74ccs is hard to argue with. This will be a fun project and I have a 245 parts saw so that will help. I think it has a usable muffler too but I havent looked in a while.
I am wrapping up a CVA project right now. That saw I did a few "mods" too I cant wait to try it this weekend.

:msp_scared:
Oh man that puts a lump in my guts. What a crying shame....

I think what we all need to do is to put up ads saying we'll take old, broken or unwanted saws. Make sure you put in there that what they'll be recycled to keep the econazis happy. Craigslist, garden shopper and daype come to mind, I dunno if Ebay's classifieds are free for want ads and I try not to patronize eBay where I can.

Was given this yestday..
had to wipe the side off to see what it was.
he said it ran fine last time he used it. had no more use for it after his house burned down and he stopped heating with wood..
runs with fuel down the carb and will pull from the tank but not well.
needs of course carb kit and all new lines..
after cleaning i may be able to tell where the impulse line goes,,looks like THAT may be a job ??
now to find an IPL :)

Got er done :)
said to heck with it and took it apart to clean it.
made it easier after cleaning to work on it and impulse line was not a problem that way..did a muff mod and painted it,baked on the woodstove for a day to dry..runs pretty darn good..
going to show it to the guy that gave it to me and if he would like it back i will let him have it..he has done a LOT for me over the years.. if he dont want it back it will be a keeper for me :)

Sure did clean up nice and looks to be a very low hour saw. Good on you for offering the saw back to the original owner also.

Joe, Looks like a good project. Looks like one of my MM :msp_blink:
Have brought a couple Homies back from the dead that sat on damp concrete for years. They have there own challenges thats for sure.

running like crap on the low end

It was just given to me and not run in 2 years. it ran great for a day then i turned it on its side and fuel was running everywhere. I found out the lines were completely rotted. replaced those. now the saw tarts easy and will idle for a short time. it wants to die eventually but if i keep it revved up it will run. it stumbles some if you grab the throttle quick. I have adjusted the low end needle and not much help.

could a pinched returnline have this effect. otherwise the saw is super light annd cuts like mad with a sharp blade. its a smaller 23 cc motor maybe thanks for the help

What model saw is it?

I think you should just give up on it and send it to me. :msp_laugh:

Seriously, does it have a Walbro WJ carb on it? I have some experiance with that carb but not alot. Since that saw is Pioneer based, you may want to post your questions in the Pioneer thread, theres some sharp guys there with lots of experiance with those saws.

My first thoughts are that its not carb problems anyway since it dont do it all the time.

OK I have a video on you tube couldn't get it on here sorry. Before I had started it I took the carb apart again. I had thought about it for a while the guy before me had rebuilt it and when I had did it I had put everything in the way it came out. On the metering side of the carb the bottom diaphragm was backwards. I had put it back together seems to flood out when starting and still has the same problem. I had cleaned the fuel filter and would like to get a new one and also a new fuel line. The carb is a walbro WJ20A it also has a E9 on it. Any ideas?

Metering lever too high causes flooding.

Well guys, I need a 5400/8500 piston (Poulan PN 530010531). If anyone can help me out, pm me please.

Nik, I don't have much to much to help you out there. I have a clutch cover for a 7700/8500 in nice shape. It has the 3/8" holes as opposed to the 5/16" like the 5200/5400. I think it was a replacement cover from Poulan, with no decal on it.
Gregg,

Thanks for getting my video up! How do I do that? The flooding thing is new started doing it today and only when pulling. Once it kicks over the flooding stops and it seems to run too lean and takes a while to come back to idle.

Guys, got a question that may be stupid but gotta ask.

Guy brings me a 2350cva (bad cylinder) and a trashed PP180(good cylinder scored piston) and a plated 2350 piston. Has anyone ever used a plated piston in a plated cylinder with good results?

Thanks.....

The video thing is easy. When your in youtube there is an button below the video that says "embed". Push that and long string of HTML code that looks like goobledy gook will appear in a window. Highlight all of that text and then type CTRL and C and the same time. Then you flick over to your reply window in AS and type CTRL and V at the same time. This puts that entire text string into your posting and when it goes up on AS when you submit your reply the AS site will recognize the HTML code and it appears as an embedded video.

As for the flooding I burned up my 2 cents. One of the actually smart people on this thread will likely answer tha question for you shortly.

Thanks Brian
I'll try that next time
