Poulan S6000 or Pro-655......?

If you could pick between an S6000 (Basically a Domar 153) or a Pro-655 (Rebadged P series Pioneer 62?)...which would you pick?

Reasons why?

655, reason for me would be it is a animal. Out of all the big poulans that I've owned 655, 6000, 5200, 5400, PP505 and 8500, the 655 had the most power and rpm. It's also the only one that has the sound that comes with the horizontal piston saw.

I really want a 655 but for now i gotta go with my 6000. it's gonna be the strongest cause its ported.

You probably have ran them both more then I have but I ran em both back to back and I'm not so sure the 655 is stronger. Maybe it is but the 6000 seemed to pull harder while the 655 seemed to rev higher.

I still agree with your choice though, lots more parts out there for the 655.

I use a 24" bar, full comp, chisel chain, on mine. Now, I havn't done any felling of large oaks with mine. I only have the one 245A, so I havn't been using it as a "work saw". I have several other saws to fill that bill nicely.;) A 385xp & 5200.

I would like to get another 245A sometime, so I can use it to its full potential. They are great running, powerful, light weight, 74cc saws.
P/C are kinda hard to find, so I just use mine for fun..:msp_drool:
Gregg,

That's some nice saws right there Gregg.
I'm a cheap bastid right now, just starting out trying to make a few extra bucks. Can't drop that much on a newer saw right now. Plus, I want people to look twice when that old green saw fires up and starts slinging chips. :msp_biggrin:

what ya all think of this saw?

guy is selling this saw local pretty cheap its a poulan 31 he says she has spark and compression only wants 35 bucks seems like it would be a great convorsation piece how old would this saw be???? from the 60s? its so old it aint green LOL!

It would be from the mid 60's, I bought one last Saturday to add to the collection. It runs, but I need to get some new bolts for the handlebar.

Joe, using only Indian head shellac for a cyl sealent makes me nervous. That stuff is pretty thin.

Might be OK though, I never used it for that but I would sure keep a eye on it.

Ill keep an eye on it. I put some on the base of the jug and the top of the case. Let it set a bit then I bolted it on. Ill see how it runs and if it starts to act funny Ill put a regular gasket back. I did start it today and it today and it ran awesome.
I have one of the 2 3400's on the bench now. Almost as easy as the S25s

well fellers you all might have think i have turned my back on you all but i haven't. LOL but i won a new saw on e-bay today and it's not a poulan but it has 82cc. and it needs a carb rebuilt or cleaned i'll find out when i get it.but it's a left handed saw and it's a Remington Sportsman Special 82cc.

It's just my opinion Mark not saying that it's right lol. The 655 that I had ran like no other saw I've ever owned.

I got old faithful yesterday. Seems to run pretty good, I have no wood laying out back to put it in right now but I'll fix that here shortly cutting with my old green saw!

So what did ya think about my brass lamp switch knob for my oiler button? It's been that way for about 10 years. I've thought about changing but this way it will never break again.

What mix did you run in it Mark, 32:1 or 40:1 or what? Just want to make sure it's tuned to what I run.

Don't you know that we're only aloud to post pictures of poulans on this thread? Any other breed is grounds for termination.:buttkick::hmm3grin2orange:

Dang didn't know that well i guess i'll delete them before i get the boot out the door LOL.

aint seen it in person

i have not seen it in person its about an hour drive just trying to decide if i feel like driving to the other side of tampa its pretty cheap at 35 just not sure i want it that bad its a pretty neat looking old saw!

My feelings too. Did you lap the cylinder and crancase surfaces? If not, there may be too much surface imperfections to be taken up reliably by the Indian Head. That stuff's not meant to bridge gaps, and may develope cracks (from vibration) and voids if used that way. Air leaks...

Most of me wants to say you two worry too much, but time will tell on my saw.
