Had a streak of limited ambition today. So went to the woods and dropped a large swamp white oak, to get a couple good sized logs for the GTG. The tree has been dead for a couple years. Just kept putting off working on it. Should have done this last fall or this winter. Its in a Very wet area in the woods. Water standing everywhere.:msp_mad: So the big problem now, will be getting them out, before GTG time. lol

The first log is about 31", was 36" at the stump. So should be some good wood for saw playing!!
I'll post a video later of the non-professional felling job..lol

Gregg,

Good man! That's the size we need for the two man saws. :yourock:

The Poulan Lovers GTG will be Sat. May 14th. at my place up here in north west Ohio. Pretty close to where I-75 and US-30 cross. I take it, you must be on the far east coast. Be a ride for sure, but more than welcome to attend.;)

Gregg,

Maryland is where I hang my hat unfortunately. I have a friend that has a place up on Mosquito Reservoir that we go to quite a bit. I need to check my calendar.

Here is a video of the Oak I dropped today for the GTG. Shame on me, I used a 385xp for the job.:buttkick: But it has the longest bar of any of my saws. 30".

I apologize in advance for the length and bordom of it..LOL I don't have a clue how to edit them. Would have been better to have someone else run the camera too, instead of being on a tripod. Oh well, it all happened according to plan. :msp_biggrin:

Problem with my 5200

My 5200 has developed a problem. I think it might be leaking seal. I used it last summer & fall quite a bit, and it ran fine. Now after sitting all winter, was giving me fits today.

Started to die out on me a couple of times, as you will see in this video. I richened it a little, then did it again, right before I pinched the bar. LOL:dizzy: Thats why I carry at least 2 saws with me..

Anyway, I didn't have the video cam on in the next cut. It started running like a saw does when running out of fuel. Would not come back to idle. Idle was real fast. If I richened it a bunch, it would start to act normal, but go right back to where it was. Looks like I got some work to do before the GTG, on a couple saws now. The 4200 arrived today also. Don't look half bad, for an old junk!

Anyway, heres how to pinch a bar. Ain't my first either, I will admit.

Gregg,

Greg, don't feel like the lone ranger on that bar pinching routine! :hmm3grin2orange:

Thats why I carry 6 saws. :ices_rofl:

If you suspect a crank seal, don't mess around, just replace them both to be safe. 5200 P/C cost much more then a couple seals.

If you run out of time, just let me know and I'll bring some tools with me to the GTG and we can change them and vac test it in about a half hour. Those are VERY easy saws to work on.

Thats why I just seem to change them out on these old saws right away and be done with it.

My new to me 4400 got them changed before I even started it as it failed a vac test right off the bat.

I got to run it a little down at Jeremys and it ran real good!

Well thats good to know they are an easy fix Mark. I take it, it doesn't require a special old Poulan tool. LOL I have done them on 3400/4000 style saws with the crankcase halves separated.
I guess I will try figuring this out, and hopefully get it running right again. I planned on doing it over right this summer, including paint, decals, rings, seals etc. Now I just want it running for the GTG.

Gregg,

Ah yes the pinched bar. Been there often. Soon as I saw that log move I knew you were cooked. If it idles fast and can't be adjusted I'd agree its a seal. Happened on one of my 3300's and a pressure/vac test proved the seal was bad. Bogging down seems like I'd agree with Brad that its fuel or carb related. At least let's hope so.

I may have asked this before, but it's time to do something about it before the GTG. What bar should I put on my restored 5200? I'm inclined to go with 24", but perhaps that's too short. I'd like a period correct bar for it in LN condition. I'm running 3/8 .050 chain.

That saw needs one of the 30" sprocket nose bars, but I hate them because of the off the wall drive links.

Gregg,

My 3700 did that, i was told it was the metering lever maybe. I would throw a carb kit in it as well and see. I got rid of the 3700 before i could figure it out.
