Got my NOS bars today!!

Got my 2 bars today in the orig Poulan package, almost too nice to open. Both say they are for the 3400, but they will fit 3700 and 4000 too. Heres the thing tho, they have different bar adjuster/oil holes. Any ideas? (Also would be willing to trade one bar for a 20"-24" bar for a 245a. Doesn't have to be new but decent shape, roller nose, replaceable even better, PM me.) Any ideas on these bars? the bar with the circular adj. hole is: 16" 3/8 .50 44196 AF, the other bar: 44196AQ

See the two diff holes? the NOS bar on my 4000 has the bar on the left.

I think the oval hole was added later in the production run of this bar so that that it would also work on Homelite saws that had a square (sorta) adjuster pin.

If I'm wrong Mark will be along shortly with the truth.LOL
That boy has forgotten more about these old saws than I could ever learn in a lifetime (or two).

I thought that too Mike, (about the Homelites) Also, these bars look to be painted, my 4000 bar is not.

Don't think that would work, Mike. The Homelite bar is made to work on a 3/8" bar stud while the 3400/3700 has 5/16" stud. Slot is wider on the Homelite bar and the Poulan bar wouldn't work. That's why Mark sourced those spacers so you could build up the diameter of the Poulan bar stud to accommodate the Homelite bar.

Edge & Engine has them for the S25CVA but none listed for the DA. The description says XXV CVA but if you enlarge the pic of the decal set the Rewind cover decal says Super XXV.

Steve, I know that some of the S25CVA's had a bar clamp decal that said Countervibe on them but not all. The original one that I bought back in about 79 had the same as these.

These ones that you pointed out, were actually made from the pictures of my saw that I have right now.

As were the 245A decals being made now also.

The guy that makes them just finished up makeing this set and he has them available now. Kyle from Edge and Engine should be able to get them for anyone who want's them.

Don't give me too much credit Mike. But your right it seems like I forget alot now a days. :)

If both of those bars have the same 5/16" slot then I would guess that they were made by two differnt manufactures. Poulan sourced bars from both Oregon and Windsor and both at the same time it seemed.

I think all the Windsor bars had the oval holes.

Joe those are nice looking bars and I'm glad you like them, they will look good on your saw, but personally I never really cared for them that much. The bottom of the tips seemed to really wear fast, but I used to use em pretty hard.

Hi guys, I have a NOS Poulan XXV cylinder for sale. Is anyone interested? Also have a bunch of 3/8 sprockets, two bar covers, coil with wire, five points and condenser sets, oil caps, gaskets and starter handles. I'll sell it all as a lot or just what you need. I'll also trade for Pioneer P-series parts. If no one here wants this stuff, it goes on Ebay this weekend.
Brendon.

Got a new saw today.

Well I couldn't resist this one. I don't know hardly anything about these older ones but I'm willing to learn so anyone just jump right in and tell me about what I got here.

First thing I got to learn is how in the hell to get the carb out......

Actually, what I was trying to point out was the distinction or discrepancy between the main description and what the rewind decal actually says. The main description says Poulan XXV CVA on E & E's website, but the actual pic of the decal says Super XXV Countervibe. Different displacements. In either case not really technically appropriate for a S25DA that Brian described. Both the CVA's I have simply have XXV on the bar clamp. Good to know that the later ones had Countervibe on them though, Mark. Haven't got one of those yet. LOL

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a new spring in the inlet check valve on the oil pump. I finally got mine out last night, but the spring is totally flat.

It looks just like the 54 I had, but the 54 was a reduction drive. That is one cool saw. Good luck with that carb. I never had to have mine out, and boy im glad.

micro 25

I have the opportunity to pick up a fairly decent looking micro 25 for $15. I figure I can't go wrong. Would be a nice backup for my Stihl climbing saw, you think?

Look what I got! Guess what my next resto job will be?

These look nice don't they? I think I have all the parts finally rounded up to restore the 245A that Randy sent me. Going to tear it all down, I got new seals, gaskets, a good piston, new rings the whole shootin match for it ready to go.

Now to find the time.

I would have just given you a good 245A from the beginning:cheers:! Just ask Joe
