Mark, looking at a Poulan Deluxe Super 25 on Flea bay as a parts saw for my S25DA. If they aren't the same cc may not be worth looking at even if they look identical. If the only differance is the manual oiler might be worth a bid.
If a 3400 won't start and compression is good its gotta be the carb. Thats been my experience. Remember to use a jacketed bullet and not a hollow point. Good luck.
Bob

If it don't say A on it then it maynot be a auto oiler. Just my observation, but if a 25 series saw has a plastic sliding on/off switch then its a 2.1 saw.

Most, that have the toggle switch are 2.3 saws but I have seen some 2.1's with a toggle also, but I have never seen a 2.3 with the sliding switch.

Yep, that 3400 seen it my way finally and it started. Problem was it had a dead plug and I flooded it to no end.

Took some time and finally did a 4200 style muffler mod to my 3700. Looks and sounds tough I'll post a picture of it tomorrow and I might get to try it out tomorrow afternoon.

Let us see that muffler! I've mooded most of mine but that only entailed enlarging the baffle holes and drilling 3 holes on the lower part of the front cover. I gotta learn to weld, though.

Muffler mod

Ok here is the muffler on the 3700 now. I always thought the 4200-5200 had the coolest mufflers so I decided to try my own copy of it. This is the saw I picked up awhile ago from Bootsie and it is a excellent runner already with 155lbs compression.

I had to make my own tubeing out of flat sheetmetal. Rolled it around a 3/4" bolt and welded the seam. I welded the back outlets on the muffler shut and drilled 10 of the 18 holes in the diffuser out to 3/8's.

Bob, if your wanting to learn to weld, practice on something else first, this is a hard one to do. Of course my hardest thing now is seeing it well enough up close, but I did get a cheater lens awhile ago and that helps.

Here it is, with luck I can use it today to tackle that last oak I have to do. The saw ran well before so I expect even more out of it now.

Motivated by Mark.......

Well, I've been working a little on my 3400. I went through the carb and am replacing the new lines as I did not clean the tank as well as I thought. When I cleaned the carb it was just terrible. Whole new Walbro kit is installed, and lines to come today. Mark, that is one nice muffler mod! I have a good friend who lives down the street who has a welder. He's not that good, and I've forgotten a whole lot, and never knew much to begin with. Your mod has motivated me to get it done. Also, my "problem" includes working on an XL-12, McCulloch Tilly carb, and a Browning Auto 5 all at the same time. I have to reign in my CAD and focus! Great looking mod Mark! I really like it. Have a great day cutting and take care! Max.

HOLY COW!!!

You old scoundrel.
That looks GREAT!!!
We are gonna have to change your name to "MufflerMod Mark"
I wonder how it would look with a 3/4" copper 45 brazed on?

Practice is indeed good advice. Question: What did you use for the pipe and where do you find them. Same gauge as muffler?

HOLY COW! is right! Thats the best lookin muffler mod I've seen. Now if we send our saws to Brad, to port them, and Mark to rework the mufflers, we would be shi**in in high cotton! But then we would have a $500 old Poulan. :dizzy:

Very nice job Mark! thats impressive!

Gregg,

Gregg,

Yeah,

A $500.00 old Poulan that will run with a new $500.00 Stihl, Husky, Dolmar or Jred and be a LOT better looking.
Probably outlast the stuff we are getting today too, even giving up a 30 year head start!

Mike

Well boys the verdict is in. That muffler mod works! When I didn't get to go after the big oak today I decided it was time to cut up that pile of maple from last spring.

Now I know the maple is soft but still this 3700 was cookin! It just screams though the wood. I didn't time anything as it wasnt that big a deal but I would say it would would make ya'll stare!

Lots of torque also, I could dog it in and just tear though it if you wanted to.

I walked over to the Oak pile and it was impressive there also. It actually felt as strong or stronger then my 4000.

Must have got the oiler dialed in right also as when the gas tank went dry the oil tank had just a little left in it.

I know I should get a video camera.

On the downside my 245A without the decomp decided to play hard to start and I snapped the rope on it. It was new too! Compression is good on it. Going out to fix it bbl.

any of you all want to buy all these poulan parts off me in one complete parts lot $ 185.00 plus freight cause there will be more than 1 box

i do know there is alot of stuff like a handle for a S25 i know its not much im making but i need some income to help on my truck bill besides i will have new inventory once i get restarted have 2 sources of poulan parts and 8 sources of homelite and 2 of mcculloch
and 1 of phelon coils points and condensers

so yes i have my list of dealers to buy from once i get back in the business

so letting these parts go cheap is income in my pocket

that dont have to go to no middle man or distributor

i know someone on ebay would be really upset hearing i sold my inventory cheap and if you think its worth more than the 185.00 im leaving it up to you

Decals are here.

Look what I got! Guess what my next resto job will be?

These look nice don't they? I think I have all the parts finally rounded up to restore the 245A that Randy sent me. Going to tear it all down, I got new seals, gaskets, a good piston, new rings the whole shootin match for it ready to go.

Now to find the time.

Did decals for S25DA ever get this same treatment? I have one I am thinking of restoring. Decals may be the hardest part to find...

Edge & Engine has them for the S25CVA but none listed for the DA. The description says XXV CVA but if you enlarge the pic of the decal set the Rewind cover decal says Super XXV.
