Guys, dad has an old post or water oak in his yard that needed some trimming. I thought I was going to do some climbing so I took the old S25DA that has a 16" bar and a loop of the new Stihl 63PS3 full chisel lo profile chain.

That chain rips for lopro chain. I put 3 tanks through the little saw and that chain is every bit as good as .325 full chisel, really impressed me today. I'm going to get a couple of more loops to put on a couple of small saws I'm building, really good chain.

These dont really belong in here but they are green so I'll post them anyways. The 6000 I already owned but the 5500 arrived today. Damn UPS finished the handle off.

I just ran that 5500 a few days ago and I can say unequivocally that it is a BEAST!!
I tried to convince Jeremy that I really needed it for the Poulan lovers GTG but he insisted that you were first in line and, being a man of his word would not sell it to me.
I hope UPS is gonna help you out on that handle, there was no reason for them to break it that way.
It had been repaired but the repair was as strong as it was when new.
Congratulations on a REALLY nice saw.

I disagree, there green and say Poulan on them so they do belong here. For better or worse or whatever these are part of the Poulan history. You can post up then next Dolmar 100 you find here as well.

Most here forget that Poulan relabled at least 3 saw models for Dolmar in this time frame. Seems like Poulan was kinda in a fix for a good big saw and Dolmar probably was in the same boat for small saws.

Seems like it worked out well for Dolmar and Poulan as they both got to sell some very good saws in the deal.

I also ran that saw at the KY GTG and it is a good one. You will find a handle I'm sure. Glad to see you end up with it.

Bob, If you can find a video of Arrowhead's Wildthing, that will show you what can be accomplished with it. Last summer at Outdoorliving247's GTG in Ill. we had a little Wildthing shootout. HA, After that smack down, I think everybodys wildthings kinda got put back on the bench, for further work. LOL
I know I havn't touched mine since.
Gregg,

Gregg I got a open invation out to Ed to ride over with us to the GTG and I'm hoping he can make it.

Sounds like Chris will be coming along though!

I know he got his PP655 up and going so he can bring it!

Here's an update for you guys on the Craftsman 3.0 I got. I got the p+c today and it is NOT a perfect fit. There are three things that make not exact: 1. There is an impulse nipple on the crankcase of the saw and the jug off of the 3300 also has one 2. The 3300 piston was a little too big to complete the stroke at bottom dead center, I had to grind the case some to make it work (hope it was the right thing to do, if not I know for next time) 3. The base holes for the cylinder bolts on the 3300 jug had to be drilled a little to make make the screws line up. Let me know if I did any thing wrong here, this is getting into new ground for me as far as modifications, flying by the seat of my pants here. I am also going to try to port this one, it will also be my first.

What do you think Stephen, was it alright to grind out the crank opening to the cylinder to make the bigger piston fit?

Grind how much, where? Case?.... oh my. A picture is worth a couple of words...:msp_biggrin:

My 3300 rebuild went south tonight. For the first time in my life I tried to use mechanical means to compress the piston rings, I have always just use a slow and easy aproach with finger nails doing the work. Yup broke the bottom one...grrrr....:msp_sad::msp_sad:

Not good when stuff breaks. The piston was too big to allow the it to make a full stroke, not by much, but enough. I had to grind a little out where the piston meets the opening in the crankcase to allow it to make its full stroke to bottom dead center. I will try to think to post a pic tomorrow night when I go back out to my shop.

Oh...O.K. I just got the picture in my head...I don't think you had a choice, if the piston was a larger diameter and would not fit it was a must do. Where did you get the larger piston? They seem to be NLA?:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

I found a p+c off of a Poulan 3300 on Chainsawr.com, one of the site sponsors. It was used but both together cost me $65 after shipping. If I mess it up the saw was free and I just learned a $65 lesson.

I think you are doing well grasshopper!:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

That is a very fine saw when it is together.

Are you using a base gasket or just sealer?

I have not decided yet, I have to measure the squish first and then I'll decide. The base gasket on the 3300 jug is very thin already.

You got it, that is all stuff that I am learning as I go and with a lot of very good schooling found right here in this site.

I am pretty new to Poulans, this Craftsman and my PP415 are the only two I claim, I have owned others but they were of a box store variety, not saying that they terrible they have their place but it's not in my log pile.

Working on a Poulan/Dayton for my buddies father in law. Gonna replace fuel lines, filter, rebuild the carb and new airfilter. Along with a new chain. I will post pics tomorrow of it.

Mark dont hate on me to much :)

Thanks Mike. yea its a shame about the handle as it looks like it was a good repair and probably stronger then the original. That handle was a poor design anyways and was replaced by dolmar later on. I told Jeremy about it and he was gonna contact UPS. I'm not to worried about it as I believe he said he had another good handle on the way just didn't have it when he shipped the saw.

He sure is a good guy. He had it sitting on his shelf for a few weeks for me while I came up with the $$$. Glad you enjoyed running it and she sure does sound strong.

Mark does that mean when my red dolmar 144 arrives that I can post it in here??? This 5500 must be a good one if all you poulan guys approve. I hope a handle arrives soon so I can run it at the NYCSM GTG in a few weeks.

Something is amiss with your P & C. I checked both my 3000 and three 3300's and all have the impulse nipple on the case and not on the cylinder. Not sure if POulan changed their manufacturing process in later 3300's as I don't know the age of the three I have. Also all holes lined up. I have an extra case if you have problems with the one you have but it also has the impulse nipple on the case. I wonder if you received a PP330 P&C but that's a guess on my part as I have not idea of the diff. between the 3300 and PP330.

You might be right. I am going to try to make it work, the saw was a freeby and all I'll have into it is the $65.00 for a used piston and cylinder. I think I can make it work.

the guy sent me a picture, the saw looks like my 3300 and nothing like my 3700....I think it is a newer model than the 3700/3400 series. It looks almost identical to my Timbermaster 3600:confused2::confused2::confused2: so many saws so many numbers:confused:

Then it isn't going to be a 3800!

The 3800/3.8 Craftsman looks identical to a 3700 except it is in a gray case.
What you are describing sounds like a 3.3 Craftsman.
It is the later style like a 365/380 in gray.
AFAIK Craftsman didn't have an equivalent to the 380 but Mark will know more about that than me!....................(And everything else too, but we won't talk about that!)
