To Whom it may concern;

I, the undersigned do hereby declare and attest that as of this date, May 1, 2011,
I have offically entered the recycling/salvage/reclaimation business (sometimes referred to colloqually as the "junk business) here at my residence.
Pick ups are available daily at your convenience within a 1000 mile radius!

Dang it!! Competition already. I see the Recycling, (JUNK) business is a dog eat dog world. :D
Oh well, I guess you can't miss something you never had!
Gregg,

They did, a few years ago I didn't have CAD, I was happy using my 28 year old 4200, I told every chainsaw user I know that it was a great tool. They all told me I was crazy. If it wasn't a ***** it wasn't worth owning, since I had never owned a ***** I couldn't argue with that, but I thought perhaps they were uninformed.

The few people who actually tried my saw were blown away with the power, but by then they were NLA.

I know several people who are using 15-20 year old versions of the 330. They don't have CAD so they just quietly go about the business of cutting firewood every once in a while. If they ever have to replace them they will have to switch brands if they want the same quality since Poulan no longer markets a professional quality saw.:msp_scared:

I presume the 3300 is the predecessor of the PP330?

Bob

Did some trading for a couple 5200's in red at the GTG this weekend.
They both run out solid with an idle sound that is now in my top ten easily.

Couple pics for the board.

Too bad Poulan didn't have all you 330 fans around a few years ago with your testimonials. They might still be selling them. I personally wouldn't have one. In fact I'm tired of looking at all this Poulan green and yeller junk. Might just give it all to the junk man including the 655, 8500, 7700, 4400, 4200, 5200 and all them sorry 3700's and 4000's. :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

You can ship it to me! :msp_biggrin:

You got a fine pair there.
I have the 4.2 and 5.2 in red and black and they are as good as if they were lime green!!!LOL
I intend to attempt a video at the PLGTG this year of all the 4200/5200/7700/8500 etc series saws sitting together idling!!!

Reckon that will sound like the pit area at the winternationals???:msp_thumbup:

Good looking saws! Man what did you have to give up to get those?

Can't kiss and tell but both parties are happy with the arrangement. Really had no idea on the real market value so I just made a strong offer.

The 30 is original to the saw I was told. The owner ordered it from the Sears catalog locally. The other was picked up at a yard sale by the same guy.

Nice score Mitch! Way to push the heck out of my Jealous Button! Makes me Poulan Green with envy for the Craftsman Red additions to your stable...:hmm3grin2orange:

I've never even seen a Craftsman 4.2 or 5.2 in person. Just tons of Micros and the occasional 2.1/2.3, 3.4 or 3.7.

As far as I know the answer is YES...as long as you swap them as a set. Plated/aluminum or aluminum/plated.

Bottom ends are all the same.

Mark can answer that better than I can but.....

Very little is set in stone with Poulans and even less (as a rule) with the rebagded ones.
Add to that the fact that these saws have been around for up to 30 years and who knows what has been replaced with what and the real answer is you will just have to give the saw the once over and check it for yourself.

Mike

The only thing I can add is the the red 3.7's are mostly 3700's but I have seen at least one red 3800.

I have never seen a grey 3700, all have been 3800's and being newer it makes sense.

Bottom ends are all the same, I'm getting ready to put a 3700 crank in this 4000 tomorrow.

yea. As I recall 3800' s are thick ringed.

Thanks guys. That's exactly the info I was looking for!

Add me to the list as another "Junk Man" that will take all of that Poulan Green and Yeller Junk offa your hands. Since I reside in the enviromentally responsible land of Kalifornia, you can rest assured that they'll be disposed of in a manner that's most friendly to the planet.:jester:

Mitch, you done well, no doubt! There maybe one or two better sounding saws, but no way nine. :msp_wink:

Mikes 5.2 came with the original bar as well and is a 30" Windsor.

I also have a 5.2 and 4.2 and just found this bar on ebay for the 5.2 24" 4.2 CHAINSAW BAR 4147 44116 G00Z | eBay

I'm pretty sure it is the original one for the Craftsman 4.2

I also just made the deal on a NOS 36" 404 bar that is listed as original to the 5400 and 8500. I have not documented that it is correct on the 5200 for sure or not yet but I think it is.

I'm also working on a deal for another NOS Poulan bar as well.

Let me know how they come out and your source, if you don't mind, so I can inquire. I'd like to repaint it but the color has me at a loss.
Bob

Bob Joe Salva is the source. Ask Pioneerguy Jerry what color to use, I think he's been down that road.

That's a sweet Pioneer err I mean Poulan there Mark!!!!!

Those are great saws for sure. I have a P50 that is a really strong runner. That saw of yours is around 100cc ain't it?!?!?

99cc if I'm not mistaken.

Great looking saw Mark. But now that you have been to the top of the mountain..what next? 6000? :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

As a matter of fact yes, thats what I was working on, but just found out the deal is dead for now. The seller was having second thoughts and I don't blame him.

Gregg,

It sure is and it to quote Norm from cheers, I must be wearing milk bone underwear. :)

Do these have a standard crank seal?

Why yes they do.

National seal # 471466

The sizes are .625 x 1.24 x .250

If the PTO side seal is leaking it will suck bar oil and smoke like the one on the left is doing.

Both sides use the same seal and I say change them both, there one of the easiest saws in the world to work on.

Just so you know the HS carbs on the 5200's were governored.
