I always try to sell my saws on the forum 1st before heading to eBay. I would like to see someone who really appreciates it get the saw 1st then some unknown. I also don't sell them for anymore on eBay then I offer them for here. I sell with a buy it now at a reasonable price and don't try to get rich off my fellow enthusiasts.

I can see both sides of this.I would give people on here a chance at it first. But I would want what its worth also.Thats only because I feel a little close to a lot of people on here that have helped me so much.I don't think he wanted to upset anyone on here.He just wanted to show it off.And it will likely go higher on fleabay than it would on here. But who knows it may not? After all it is his saw to do with as he pleases.Just my opinion i aint no body.

Why yes they do.

National seal # 471466

The sizes are .625 x 1.24 x .250

If the PTO side seal is leaking it will suck bar oil and smoke like the one on the left is doing.

Both sides use the same seal and I say change them both, there one of the easiest saws in the world to work on.

Just so you know the HS carbs on the 5200's were governored.

Thank you, Mark
I remember reading something to that notion. It smokes real good lol

In your effort to replace it do yourself a favor. Do not overlook the "other great german saw" The Dolmar 7900 has a lot going for it, including bargain priced 84cc P&Cs at one of our sponsers sites.
I just picked one up for $300...I almost wish it needed a P&C, I will probably buy one for the future.....see...what goes around comes around......sometimes....:D:D:D:D

That is what I intend to send him to use if his saw doesn't sell!
I'm pretty sure he will buy one after he uses one for a while.

I agree with you 100%. I am not gonna sell something for less then it's worth but sometimes I feel eBay inflates those prices and is not a good judge on price. I price my stuff reasonably and try here 1st cause I would like to see it go to a friend or fellow collector who I know will enjoy it. I save eBay for a last resort because the fees are enough to make you go broke and there is alot more BS there.

I don't know much about these big saws but I don't see anything to not like about the big Dolmars. 30 years of progress is hard to ignore in a day to day use. Less weight is well less weight......they are almost the Poulans of todays saws...less respect than they deserve.

EXACTLY!!!

I have never sold anything on the bay.I sure have bought plenty LOL If i want to sell anything I will try here first then go to CL.And I do have a bunch of little poulans to move.36 & 42 cc They aint worth much but I aint giving them away LOL

The auction environment can of course inflate the price. And the seller has to sell it above it's value to come out even when he pays the selling fees. E-Bay wins everybody else...well ....

If there is some guy with deep pockets who feels like screwing with people he can. I once saw a man burn a pile of very nice furniture because he didn't get the price he wanted in his moving sale. I tried to talk him into giving it away to a charity be he didn't want any part of that, even with the tax deduction. He didn't need the money and he chose to burn it rather than to give it to charity.

If a guy like that takes a liking to something strange things can happen. He could buy the saw and run it over with his hummer just for the kicks of watching the rest of us cry. I have seen some strange ****.

Strange things do happen a lot?Just can't figger some people out?

I don't know how often it happens. I don't get out much. This young guy had everything going for him. His dad owned a company that did x-ray pipe inspection at Nuclear power plants. He made good money and had a great looking wife. He just had this strange little evil twist. He moved away and from what I have heard his wife eventually left him. She did not want to see the furniture burn because the people living accross the street had none...and he refused the offers of what they could afford to pay for it.....man go figure...I wasn't raised that way but a lot of people are...:msp_sad:

Sounds like he was a few fryes short of a happy meal LOL

If it doesn't bring the reserve, guess what? I won't have the $ to replace it, and it will immediately go back into service where I'll run the risk of breaking it beyond repair and then I'll get to hear from the collectors about what an idiot I was for ruining a great saw...

Quite a bit been going on here while I was out in the shop resurecting a 4000 Poulan

The above quote is what I kinda expected when I seen that saw on ebay this afternoon.

Nothing wrong with that, a new 85cc saw is alot of money now days, I know I just bought a new 7900 myself.

I give 37 a little credit for wanting to maybe put the 8500 out in favor of a newer "work" saw. That 8500 dont deserve to be out and working every day like a Hebrew slave.

As for all the PM's 37 got, (none from me) I don't blame him for trying the open market.

I have done the same thing when I needed to get a fair market price out of one myself.

Thing is ebay is a gamble, you never know what will happen or what it will bring. The ebay fees are really getting out of hand as well and it seems selling one here at a little lower price then maybe what one on Ebay will bring might be a better deal in the long run.

I know I did expect a little more out of the restored 5200 that I listed a while back, but then like I said, you never know.

I know myself,I would not give more for a well used 8500 then what a completly rebuilt and restored 5200 did.

Thats just me though.

As for the 4000, its all together and is in overall very good conditon. I got it all sealed up very well, it only lost 1/2" vac in 20 minutes on the vac test and pulled 150lbs compression.

I ran out of time on it, but I got it running but its cutting out. I think the coil is bad on it. Not surprising after this one had been wet.

I will look tomorrow to see if I have a spare coil but I'm not sure if I do. I maybe on the prowl for one.

Wow you have brought that one back from the grave for sure.

Mark you seem to have boiled it all down. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. The parts situation for the big Poulans is a problem. A guy gets one and then you are faced with the choice of using it or not. That is one nice looking saw but there is some information lacking that might increase or decrease its value.

I don't have a problem with using one from time to time, I just dont think its one you need to "depend" on using all the time.

Don't throw it away yet, find a way to dry it out.

Where I worked we had a flash flood that put 4ft. of water in the wire mill. All the electric motors had to be dried out to remove moisture from the fields. We put them in one of the process dryers set at 120 deg. for several days before putting any voltage on them.

Not bad Mark. That was one sorry saw you started with but at least the most important parts were salvageable. Did you save the rings?

I agree with you Brad I talked with this member and he said he had already had 20 pm's on the saw. I think at auction is the best way for him to go, I'd more than likely do the same thing.

It's his he can do what he wants with it. If folks want it there it is go for it that's the whole idea behind an auction.
I love a good auction. Now we'll she who has the mouth and who has the real balls. I'm in.
Joe

I suppose that if one of us wants to bid on the saw that would be perfectly ok with the seller.

Bid or not, it's up to you, not me.

I've been judged by some here based on actions of others even though I've already displayed that my actions are not those of others. I"m basically being called a liar by some, but I can deal with it.

"What goes around, comes around", yes, I agree fully. And it applies both ways. The person you are railing against may be the one knocking at your door to help one day, but the real trick of it is, I'll prob help you anyway.

I've explained why and what I've done, and have been completely open about it, and I'm done with being defensive over it. Any of you who feel the need to drag it out, will find yourselves on a one sided arm wrestling match.

I dont see the big deal. Everyone of you wants the most $ for your saw, and you know good and well everybody on here wants to be a tire kicker and low baller cause we are all looking for a good DEAL!

I offer things on here for reasonable prices, and everybody backs away, but then you see things in worse shape on the bay go for twice what it should

Yes time to let it go.Everyone has a chance at it.We all know where its at if they want it?

Totally agree. Don't know what the reserve is but I doubt he'll get enough to cover the cost of a Stihl or Husky 85+ cc saw. However its his right to get as much as the market will bear.
