Nice.

I was kinda wondering why it was so cleaned up and spit-shined in the pics we saw earlier. Why do I feel a bit used?
:dizzy:

Yea tell me about it. I don't wanna start :poop: :poop: But I'm getting tired of helping people for this to happen. Why help people cause all that happens is we get it stuck in our butts.

Not the impression i get.
I received a lot of attention from the membership there and to keep from stepping on any toes or hurting feelings, I'm offering this saw for auction at this time for the collectors. I don't want to regularly use a saw that is more valuable to someone who loves big green saws.

Seems fair to me.

I don't have a dog in this fight.

Here you go guys!!!! This was the 8500 just listed in this thread! This is what happens when you try and help people...it ends up on ebay looking for a fortune while you sit there with your thumb in your bum going WTF!

Poulan 8500 Professional Chainsaw, 36" bar, 2 chains - eBay (item 120718899941 end time May-08-11 11:31:39 PDT)

I fail to see the problem. He has what he has and it will bring what it's worth at auction. He certainly doesn't owe us anything.

I agree with you Brad I talked with this member and he said he had already had 20 pm's on the saw. I think at auction is the best way for him to go, I'd more than likely do the same thing.

It's his he can do what he wants with it. If folks want it there it is go for it that's the whole idea behind an auction.
I love a good auction. Now we'll she who has the mouth and who has the real balls. I'm in.

The man has a saw for sale and is selling it!!! :dizzy:

What has he done wrong?
I don't feel violated in the least, in fact I'm glad he shared the saw with us before someone bought it and stuck it away somewhere never to be seen again.

Maybe I'm missing something here?? :msp_confused:

It's no big deal. Just seems a bit shadey to me. The post with the 'spit shine' pics (which I suspect were done for ebay in the first place) was more along the lines of a guy showing off his saw.

In retrospect, it seems like his posts here were more an effort to drum up enthusiasm for his auction and get an idea of how much interest there'd be in it. He could have posted it in the classifieds section before going to feebay too. The wording in his ebay ad makes it sound like he didn't consider selling the saw until after his posts here..............yet the 'spit shine' ebay listing style pics were already shot. Doesn't really matter to me either way. And I don't think a person only has "mouth" and not "real balls" just because he can't afford to get involved in a feebay auction for a collectable saw. Maybe it's me who's missing something here. I never sent this guy a PM about his saw (I'm not one of the 20). Did rep him though....

So i guess you all think it is OK to drive the price up on saws in which you may wish to purchase! Me I prefer to try and buy my saws as cheap as i can...money does not grow on trees here!

More or less the point is constantly telling people that come here their saws are worth "Gold" when they ask and then to find them on ebay later. If you wont tell them they are worth gold then you wont have to bid against everyone and their mother for one for 500 later!

I'm Ok if you wanna sell it here after you drum up all the attention and worth but to just turn around and ebay it is a slap in the face.

Do you REALLY think that every one of the "regulars" wouldn't have seen that saw on e-Bay?
Do you suspect that there are any of us who hasn't got "Poulan 8500" in their watch list?

In all actuality posting it here could have hurt his auction.
I would hate to think I was running it up on one of my comrades.
I would love to have that saw and if it were not for three recent purchases I would have been making someone dig pretty deep to get it.
As it is, all I can do without eating beans for a month or sitting in the dark is say....."Dang I'd like to have that one!" and hope one of my Poulan Pals brings it home.

I hope the seller and buyer are both happy with the results of the sale.

I'm selling the saw to get another one to USE, and save this one for folks who like collecting.

I didn't come here with the intention of drumming up desire for a sale etc, and I knew it was somewhat collectable before I joined AS, and I already had the desire for a newer saw with easier parts replacement.

Ya'll can chose to either believe me or not, but I've done what I think is the fairest thing I can in this situation. If it doesn't bring the reserve, guess what? I won't have the $ to replace it, and it will immediately go back into service where I'll run the risk of breaking it beyond repair and then I'll get to hear from the collectors about what an idiot I was for ruining a great saw...

I can't win for losing.

ETA:
and I'm being judged by the actions of others who have come before me and sold saws after talking them up? I could "maybe" see that if this saw were the ONLY thing I'd talked about on this forum, or been involved with, but if you'll look at my posts, I had met enough great folks here and learned enough to stay and be part of the OVERALL community. This is the first negative experience I've had here, and I hope it's not the way potential new members are usually welcomed into the fold.

Sure you can!
Set your sights on the goal and pay no attention to the hecklers on the sidelines!
The saw is yours to do with as you wish, and I applaud you for not wanting to trash an uncommon saw in everyday use.
But I'll tell you what I'll do.
You retire that saw from active duty and if it doesn't meet the reserve, I'll loan you an equivalent saw for a reasonable length of time until you can save up enough for a new one..........NO STRINGS ATTACHED!!!
You pay the shipping.

THAT'S how much I appreciate you not running a nice collectable saw in the ground.

Mike,
WOW. That's beyond words.
Thank you kindly. I'd rep you if I could (already did recently).
Thanks again sir,
Britt

Please don't take it as a negative experience. We are all just a bunch of bargain hunters. There must be some among the folks that P.M.'d you who are a little dissapointed.:msp_mellow:

I am not among that group.

Being a newbee to this chain saw addiction, I have paid way to much for some of my saws, yet I have got three nice Poulans at very fair prices, one from the classifieds here, one from a Michigan craigs list and one from Wisconsin craigs list and by some miracle the young man agreed to ship it to me. I think that we all prefer a straight up sale, where the seller sets a price that they think is fair and then we can decide if is within our budget or not. Coming up with a "fair price" is the hard part.

I do think that as a group, we don't like the idea of bidding against each other. We don't mind bidding against strangers but we know as Poulan fanatics we are a bunch of sick puppies and it is possible for things to get out of control.

I am pretty sure that many of the guys here have bought, sold and traded saws to each other for much less than they have seen them sell for on E-bay, partly because they are not in it for the money and partly because they subscribe to "what goes around comes around".
I don't have a dog in this hunt but the goes around comes around thing has a way of suprising you every once in a while.

I was desperately searching for a Poulan 4200 for a long time. I had one that was within drivings distance of my house at an incredibly low price slip through my fingers and got shipped down south somewhere, Kentuky perhaps to one of the members here. I was very disapointed. The guy who bought the saw very generously offered to sell it to me for what he had into it, but with the cost of shipping it twice it was a little out of my unemployed budget at the time. It just wasn't meant to be.

About 6 months later I got a chance to help a member here get a saw he wanted. I was out of work and had more time than money so it was a no brainer, I drove less than 100 miles round trip in my 36 mile per gallon 95 Ford Escort station wagon and bought the saw and mailed it to him. He paid me a little for gas, even though I did not expect it or ask for it. It worked out great. :D

I think it was about 3 days later the guy in Wisconsin answered my e-mail (that I had sent out over a week before) and agreed to send me the saw he had advertized on Craigs list for $75. It was my Poulan 4200 that has 180 pounds of compression (on my elcheapo gage) it came with a pair of Jonserend gloves and a couple bottles of oil. The saw is in great shape and since I was out of work for almost 2 years I needed a bargain.:hmm3grin2orange:

I am pretty sure that it would bring far more on E-bay than what I paid for it. I am now back to work and have a great job making lots of money so I don't need to make any money on my "hobby" saws so I would probably not sell any of them on E-bay. Other people have different circumstances, they don't have great jobs making piles of money and need to get all they can for their stuff, to buy more stuff....I fully understand. I am fortunate enough to not have the need to do that myself.:cool2:

Anyway...we are all just people and sometimes we get dissapointed but I think we all still like each other.:msp_mellow:

Thanks Stephen. You said it all far better than we were able to. Rep sent!

So basically, next time you have a saw to sell, we can expect you to sell it to one of us for far less than it's worth? That's gasically what you're saying. I for one want out of a saw what it's worth. I need that money for my next project. Hey, I love a bargain probably more than the next guy. But if you know what your item is worth, more power to you to ask that for it.

I always try to sell my saws on the forum 1st before heading to eBay. I would like to see someone who really appreciates it get the saw 1st then some unknown. I also don't sell them for anymore on eBay then I offer them for here. I sell with a buy it now at a reasonable price and don't try to get rich off my fellow enthusiasts.
