hey - i've never tried one... are the micro xxv's fun? do they run good, or are they a pain to keep running like some other micros?

If the cylinder looks OK just hone it...

All S25DAs I've worked on, once you remove the circlip the some lite taps will remove the pin.

No, rebuild, best top handle saw ever made.....Even today....

I bought a service manual from ebay for the XXV saws

I'tll be fun working on it as there easy to work on.

Doesn't look "scored" really. It mostly has a "deposit" of aluminum on the exhaust side from the piston. If I can that off....it would probably be O.K.

Would still need to come up with a piston and rings.

I do have the IPL for it, no manual...but probably don't need it.

How many times am I gonna have to tell you guys !!!
This is a family site! Stop using the H word.
That is a four letter word you know?

NEVER, EVER, EVER allow a hone to even SEE a chainsaw cylinder much less touch it!!!!!
It does nothing but screw up the port and transfer edges, and make the coating, if it is a coated cylinder, thinner!!!

Remove the word from your vocabulary.
They are for cast iron engines ONLY!

since this is the poulan thread i'm asking the experts.
i'm thinking of buying a 3400 countervibe. what's the downside. carb will prolly need rebuilding. everything looks to be there. what's a good price.

The only downside could be the price I guess? The 3400 CVA is a very good 56cc saw. We all like them here for many reasons. Whats the downside to a saw that has plenty of power for an 18" bar, auto/manual oiler, good anti-vibe, built tough, easy to work on and plentiful parts?
Price $40-$120 depending on condition. 125psi and up is good for these saws.

Read both The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and Fear and Loathing in LV for HS or junior college english classes.

H. S. Thompson could have used a LOT less drugs. Never saw the movie....

You had some pretty progressive instructors: I was stuck with such classics as 'Little Women'....

Yea. That's one way to put it. They had the 'california' mindset I guess. I wasn't impressed by them or those books. I'd rather read a Poulan shop manual...:D

I had to read the 'usual crap too. No more James Joyce or Jeffery Chaucer for me thanks. Can't believe my 20 year reunion is coming up. I ain't going though. I'll be at a GTG instead! Poulans, Homelites, and Mccullochs with people I WANT to be around.

thanks joe. guy wants $30. says it runs good but prolly needs a carb rebuild. i just finished rebuilding a walbro and a tillotson so no biggy. not local so i'm having to trust his words. talked him into shipping it. another $20. that's $50 total. right in the good side of your range. really appreciate you responding.

Gasket Set.......?

O.K. guys...I guess my internet search skills leave something to be desired.

Is there no longer a Complete Gasket Set available for the S25DA?

Does Sten's or someone else make one? All I am coming up with is the Carb kits, don't need that. I am looking for gasket set...to facilitate overhauling an S25 (all seals and gaskets).

Anyone know?

Thanks, Flint.

No the gasket set is NLA, however, you could piece the gaskets you need, I did that from outdoordistributers, they seem to have the common gaskets.

I have had about dosen or so of em, I find them super simple to work on, 33cc cylinders and pistons are NLA, however the two ring piston and chrome 38cc cylinder is still available, as are the gasket kits. They are very repectable in 38cc, I currently still have the one I built a few months back.

I checked cmsmallengines, I think he has a brand new 38cc piston kit for the s25da, he aslo has new rings. I have a good cylinder if you need one.
Check ebay for a service manual.

Wow man I've honed every cylinder I got, didn't know it was that bad. I do use a ball hone not a three finger hone.

They are the worst kind.
If you MUST scuff, (or polish) use a slow turning flapwheel!:msp_wink:
Those balls beating around in there just mangle the port and transfer edges.

cylinder....#

Can anyone confirm the correct part # for a S25DA cylinder?

Mine has electronic ignition.

The only part number I can come up with is a 530029392

Thank you,

Flint.

Hi again everybody. I went and got that poulan, the guy said he wouldn't take any less than $20, but I bought it anyway.:D

I only have a crappy camera....

165 psi, pretty happy with that.

This one didn't turn out, but the piston is mint, not a scratch. Guess I lucked out this time.

Now...how do I figure out what I got without pulling the jug? All it says is 'super clean'. Is there a model number anywhere?

Nice saw for the money, Chris! There's other info about the model of those saws in this thread somewhere. I recall seeing it but can't find it off hand. I think mweba has one. Someone else should be along in a bit to help with that.
