Well it looks like someone is the proud new owner of a 252....wonder who that could be????? Some sorry so & so made him pay more though.

Wasn't me that drove the price up. Had a feelin' who'd end up with it. :msp_rolleyes:

I sure hope it is going to Northwest Indiana!!!

Mike

Thanks guys, it is coming to NW Indiana and I'm tickled to get it.

Such rare piece of Poulan history.

As for the price, I didnt expect to get it for that so I'm happy. The other bidder was just fishing, and I'm glad he wasnt serious.

I cannot wait to get it. I will post it up when it arrives but it wont get started till it gets torn down for a through inspection.

Cbfarmall/Chris was over tonight and he can probably help me out with a 1/2" pitch chain if I cannot find one. Once it gets here and I check out a few more things, I'm thinking I would like to get a original style bow for it.

I'm also going to look for a 744 sprocket for it since it used a .404 chain to use for messing around.

Today was a good also because a big box arrived and in it was a lime green big one.

I'm still waiting for something to go with it so I'll let you guys see it real soon I hope.

I also should mention that Chris came down to pick up that handle for his 54 that we had fixed so I got to see that saw and here it run. Its a neat one and he seems to have it up and running well. It's something with that reduction drive, bow and original style Poulan branded 1/2" pitch chain.

Congratulations on getting it. You just missed the correct bow for the 252 on ebay. It ended last week and I expect to receive it this weekend. It should be easy enough to get a .404 sprocket for it, most, if not all, of the Poulan sandcast reduction drive sprockets in .404 will fit. I purchased one from your friend Ray.

Here's the Poulan 54 I dragged down to Mark's to get the handlebar.

Remember what I started with:

Member here hooked me up with a much better handlebar that needed a little repair (in two spots). In less than a week, Mark's buddy did this:

Beautiful weld, about as good as you could expect the factory to accomplish.
Saw as it now sits:

The bow really makes this thing stand out. I need to knock a link out of this loop of 1/2". It is at the end of its adjustment.

Another friend of Mark's dropped by his place last night and seemed fascinated by it. Though, probably not enough to use the saw.

Got to see this personally. It's a real beauty. First time I've ever seen a 'lime green big one' packed with building insulation.

It wasn't easy. Lots and lots of caked on grease and mud. Still have more cleaning to do but at least the green is there.

Chris B.

I'll let y'all in on a little secret to get caked on grease and oily dirt off a saw, biodiesel. Just make damn sure you get all of the biodiesel off, DO NOT LET IT SOAK MORE AND A FEW HOURS!! It will eat aluminum, magnesium and copper. Hose it off with a good carb or brake cleaner. It makes short work of grease, but you have to be VERY careful to get it ALL off. My parts washer has 20 gallons in it. Anyone that's local to me is welcome to use it. A gallon goes a long way.

Good looking saw and the bow looks good and straight. Excellence job on handlebar - makes all the difference to the saw. Makes me jealous, I have most of sandcast saws but don't have a 53 or 54.

I looked on ebay and there doesn't to be much interest in the old Poulan cast saws. At least from the bidding I've seen. Saw a 31 go for $69 but seems to me they should be bringing more than that.

The 31 is just a baby compared to this saw. I think that the larger displacement sandcast saws especially with reduction & a good bow go for a much higher price.

Not the same handlebar--the old one was beyond repair. And yes, a very excellent job welding the cracks.

Thanks Paul, I'm looking forward to it. I'm glad you were able to get a bow for one. How are you doing with your 252? Hope you have it running soon and we can see it.

I'm also glad you were able to pick up that bow, keep your eyes open for another will you? I have not done the research yet, but how much and what is different on the 252 bow from the others?

I thought maybe a direct drive bow would fit them?

I'll look into a .404 sprocket. If I have to go there I will.

Yes I was impressed with that weld repair but remember the place that it went to be welded teaches what turns out to be some of the finest welders in the country.

Ok, here is the big green one.

I thought this deal was dead a week ago but it all turned out well. I'm pretty happy to find this one, I doubt a nicer one could be found.

I also in this deal was able to secure a NOS 30" Poulan branded Windsor bar for one of the 5200's

Either my new camera sucks or I need to learn to use it better. The color is not coming out right. This saw is brighter and not the light colored green that its showing.

A few of my Poulans

Here are a few of my Poulan saws. I have been enjoying looking @ your saws and thought that I would show a few of mine. All of these saws have not been refreshed - they all are "as shipped" from factory with age and handling wear & tear. Some diecast saws: the 252 & 5200 (& possibly 4400) will be restored when I get a chance. The 252 was partially disassembled and parts laid together for photo.View attachment 183888 some sandcast Poulans: this helps to show the size difference between the one-man Poulans.
