I thought you were pulling the flywheel from a 3700? Doesn't sound like it.
Bob
Excuse me, Bob and others, it's a 3500. I just woke up and haven't had my coffee yet. There's a pic of it somewhere in the Poulan thread. Sorry.

Carl, I dont think you have used that puller on a 3400 lately.
The 3400 saw has pressed in pins holding the starter pawls, not bolts and the flywheel is not threaded.
I hit em with a hammer to remove those flywheels, just like it says in the Poulan service manual.
So, how would you pull the 3500 flywheel? Would you hit that one with a hammer? I see no other way of getting it off there.
:agree2::agree2::agree2::agree2:
I use this method on almost all (except some of those saws that have a shroud around the flywheel and you can't get to it) flywheels and haven't had it fail yet.
Don't hit the magnets and don't miss and hit the fins.
I have even wedged a pry instrument under the flywheel and used a drift punch when a hammer wouldn't reach.

Picked up a mint 3700 chrome cylinder from ebay from a Craftsman 3.7. Lister had it up for BIN at $12, I just can't beleive none of you guys grabbed it first, I sat on it a few days, then bought it. Looked too good. Now I just need a crankcase and the 3700 is going back together.
Hit it with a hammer!
Here is the flywheel removal page from the service manual.

Did you notice the illustration shows the flywheel being hit while(it looks like to me) the nut is still on the crank? Maybe he had it loosened so the flywheel doesn't fall.

Earlier this spring when I was running my 203 Poulan in wood for the first time. I made several cuts and it quit. When I tried restarting, it made some horrible sounds and kinda acted like it was locking up, like a broke ring or something. I was very SAD to say the least.
I finally got around to tearing it apart, to see what the damages were. Fully expecting to be searching for a new P/C for it. Anyway, I pulled the cyl. Everything inside was in great shape! I was pleasantly surprised!
Turns out when I had this saw apart the first time, I evidently had a brain fart, or some other malfunction..LOL I found I had left the 3 screws on the metal plate behind the flywheel loose.
The screw heads were rubbing and trying to catch on the back side of the flywheel.
I still can't figure how I messed up and left them loose. But stuff happens I guess.:msp_ohmy: Probably won't be the last dumb thing I do. So anyway, My 203 with comp release & roller nose bar still LIVES!!
Gregg,

Glad you got it and will put it to use. I've been watching that jug since he originally had it listed for $18 or $20 weeks ago. Couldn't justify buying a cylinder for a saw I don't have yet.
Well that explains that..........:msp_tongue:I still would have passed on the cyl though as I have one here already.
I am trying to back off a little..but that would have been a must have...didn't look and didn't see it. I am so feakin busy mowing grass and fixing mowing equipment (my own) and old worn out automobiles I have not had much time for chain saws.........
Hey I will give you $14 for it! You have a piston for it?
I actually got it because the cylinder on the saw, the damn PO partially stripped the spark plugs threads, on top of breaking the AV castings front and back, so I need a crankcase, the starter pulley is cracked, the D isolator is broke, yeah he did a nice job of not giving a **** and killing this saw.
