Very Very nice Steve!!

I would love to try that gear drive out.

I hear ya. Me too! Dean's got some logs up there in his back yard that will let you set the carb on this thing. Interesting thing while going through the carb on this one is that it had an HL carb on it with the governor but it also has an air vane governor. Go figure. Nothing like wearing a belt and suspenders I suppose. :dizzy: I thought maybe someone had swapped out the carb on it but it was an HL-284A which is what Acres lists for it.

I dont claim to know anything about the air vane part, but the service manual that I read when working on my 71-A did indeed point out that some models did have both governors on them and that the HL governor was a sort of a back up fail safe on them.

245a Lives

I fiannly got to use my 245A today. The saw was running terrible, after thinking I had seal issues I realied I never put the gasket between the reed cage and manifold. Cut a gastket, re-tuned the carb, and wow, this saw is plenty powerful, and with the 20" bar it has power to spare. I noodled up some hardwood logs first. But i realized that clogs up the clutch cover fast! Then I moved to cuttin some oak and cherry 6' logs i had had. The chain was not as sharp as I could have been but the saw didnt seem to notice. Overall I'm very happy with this saw and it is fun to run! Thanks again Rick

Your Welcome...Glad it all worked out! Now I just wait for my seals to come in and see what happens

S72 Running!

Hope to take it back to Dean's soon. When I return it, I'll try to get it in some wood that might challenge it more so than any I have handy and get a video. BTW, that's a 30" bar on that thing and all told I'd estimate the total weight to be around 40 lbs.

Returned Dean's saw on Saturday. As promised here's a video of it in some seasoned hard red oak. Don't judge us too harshly on how this runs yet. This was the initial tuning of the saw in wood. No telling how long it had been since it had been in a log before then and I'm sure the chain could have used some touching up.

Sumtin funny going on in that video.

That saw just fell through the first half of that log then it took longer to get through the second half!!

Steve you got it going, now the rest should be easier.

Funny how that chain dulled just that quick in the first half. LOL It's in good hands now. I may be tempted to play with it again when I get back up to Dean's if he wants me to. He likes to work on the two man saws mostly.

Poulan 5200

Well my Poulan 5200 came this evening. Even came with original Operators manual. Took it out of box and checked compression. Came in at 170. Took muffler off and cylinder looks real good. Haven't pulled carb yet, though it doesn't look like I can check the intake side w/o pulling cylinder. By the way do any of you know if the muffler splits? Looks like its a two piece on the outside. That's about all I've done so far. Ordered carb kit and rings just in case but doesn't look I'll need the rings right now. Came with 24in bar and a fairly good chain. Surprising light compared to my Stihl 045. Plan to paint clutch cover as I have a can of Poulan lime green paint.

my first poulan !

I found a poulan 306A freebie not so long ago to add to the collection : actually, it's my first poulan (apart from a dolmar 101 hobby that is a poulan also basically). It came with an 18" bar. Older Poulans are pretty rare over here, so I was pretty surprised to find this one.

Flashy color ! She looks awfully built the same like a 10 series mac though.

I had to replace some carb seals, fuel line and to fix the muffler, but now she purrs (barks...)like a puppy. Thanks to Modifiedmark for the IPL :)

I think it's a keeper !

You'll enjoy that one, Bob. It's a bit stronger than a 3700!

Nice saw Belgian, I'd say its a keeper. I don't have one yet, but I do have a 245a and its now one of my favorite saws to run. Have fun with that 306.
