A while back, Mark put up some pics of some ebay roller bars. I debated for a while and finally grabbed a couple. They are advertized for a Mac, but that won't happen - the oiler holes are in no way close to lining up on the 10-10 here in the pic (I stuck it on there just for your viewing pleasure:)). There are two of the 'new' roller bars, a mcculloch bar, and a older Poulan hardtip just to show the differences and similarities. The roller noses look nice!

(Just ignore the XX 20 carcass in the background. It is in need of a flywheel and I need to box it up.)

Husky 142 is a ..... Wild Thing!

What with getting all the other saws working I've never messed with the 142 my wife got me year or so ago. At 16" it's a little small for the stuff I've been cutting so I have not used it much, but it's always started right up and ran great. So tonight I decided to take the cover off and look around, and at once it sure seemed familiar. Once I got to look inside it's clearly an update on my old Sears version of the Wild Thing, only 40cc instead of 42cc - kind of a cross with that and the 2775. The air filter and a couple of other parts would bolt right onto the 2775. What's funny is that I didn't know Husky bought Poulan until I started reading here, so it just never occurred to me that the saw would have anything in common with the ones I have. That's alright with me - it works fine and there's something to be said for sticking with a common design. And besides, she only paid $150 for it anyway. .

I wouldn't want to make a career of cutting stuff larger than 16" with the S25 but I would not be afraid to buck up an occasional 20"-24" tree with one.
I'm not familiar with the 112 Dolmar but a 520-540 would fit in NICELY if you can't find a 3400/330/3700/365/380/245 etc. ===

Mike

Man, I can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a 3400. I'm up to 3 ... two of which I bought for the bow bar only.

Absolutely ZERO on the bigger cc poulans, though.

thanks mike. im digging through parts saws found 2 cylinders one did not look to good the other looked good except by the exhaust ports tried to get a pic camera does not foucus to well. i was reading about the inserts and what not i may just buy another s25da saw and make sure to ask them about the cylinder LOL!i have a good one but its not a points saw ... to bad they dont make a lock tight that works on plugs LOL... i was tempted to jb weld it to get it running then shelve it till i found a donar saw the piston looks pretty good i would hate to screw it up! here is some pics so far.View attachment 192849View attachment 192850View attachment 192851View attachment 192852View attachment 192853

I don't know if this is the same deal but I had a VW spark plug hole strip out on me and I went to NAPA and got a kit to put a brass insert in. As I remember it was fairly easy to do and lasted as long as I had the car.

Calling all POulan Gurus

I've conversing with Cheeves on another thread re his POulan recoil issues. Trying to figure out which Poulan he has. Decal is worn out with only the word Timber legible. Issues is how to fix his recoil which has been in disrepair for several years. I've copied the latest info below: The recoil has two dogs unlike the 3000 or 3300 which hasone and I'm guesing its a 3500 or something similar. The 3750 has a differant setup but I'm not sure re the Timber labelled saws.

Bob: First of all, you're something else! To spend all this time trying to resurrect this old work horse for me is fantastic, and I really appreciate it. I was always under the impression this saw was 3.7 cu. in. It was "Timber...something" model. Wish I could remember. The label has worn off. Maybe these pics will help you id it. It's baffled all the mechanics around here over the years. Thanks again for all your time and interest. Bob also
Yea, I see Timber as part of the decal. Not sure just what models used Timber in their name.I think we need to move this topic over to the Poulan Thread where my buddies can chime in.

Most of the chatter is on the second page of CRftsman358.356090 thread

So I leave the country for a week and you guys go and buy up all the Poulans in the whole damn country! Good for you Id do the same! Ive been sniffin around this resort and all I saw in the way of OPE was a Stihl BR600 and a Mack R Model tri-axel that looked as out of place as a Poulan 4000 would here.
Got some nice projects goin it looks like and as far as a Poulan 3 saw plan goes...they can hang with the best of them. I dont have the top of the lineup yet but, for now I usually take my S25CVA, and Custom 3.7.
As far as the 25 goes, My dad heated the house for 10 years with just his S25DA 16". We made 2 passes in 30'' oak more than once. He bought a stihl 170, after no one would work on the 25 a few years ago. Then I found this site and put a carb kit and line on it. Too bad he wasted all that money on the 170 as that 25 just outruns it completely. Hes happy to have it running again tho.

There is an insert that fits perfectly.
It is the one with the 4 pins that you drive in to stake it in place.
I think the O.D. is 5/8ths.
I will try to get some better info asap.

Mike

If you don't have access to a machine shop you can take a longer grade 5 or grade 8 bolt that fits the threads you already have and turn it into a double diameter bolt, chuck it into a drill press and use a grinder and a file to turn down some of the diameter to the proper size, then run a die down over it to thread the small diameter, JB weld or epoxy it into place into the threads to stop it from turning out. You will then have to probably make a shoulder bushing to fill the larg hole in the clutch cover and jb weld that in place unless you have another clutch cover.:rock:

i was just going to take some all thread or a stud of the right size and try to jb weld it it but im sure it would pull out.... i have a welding buddy dont know if he can do mag or not,,, on the clutch cover im hopin a stout washer will work if not i may have to take it to a machine shop as your post says... my local place the guy dont work on old saws at all... right now im done looking at it for awhile i have other clutch covers but not that match that dayton orange...wonder if chevy orange is close lol?thank you for some more ideas stephen....think im going to shelf this one for awhile and go back to looking for some micros i have 10 decent running 25sda saws at this time plus 3 or 4 parts ones and this dayton now ...time to move on to some rear handle saws !!!

no kidding?

A 3.7 or 60cc Timbermaster would be a Poulan 3500 or 3600 and yes they have 2 starter dogs like a PP365.

I think if it were mine I'd just Red Locktite that bolt back in the hole, cut it off flush then drill and tap the center of it, unless that's a really hard bolt.

So who has the high bid on the 8500 on the bay?? OOPS did I let the cat out of the bag?:taped:

It looks to be a really nice one!

Wish it was me, but I'm waiting on a saw that I kinda blew my wad on coming from Portland OR next week.

Thats the way it always works for me. Day late, dollar short.

The one from OR is comparable in collectors terms though.

i'm with you on all counts. the red loctite is advertised to something like 500F. if the bolt is a grade 5 or 8, go to the store and get a regular old grade 2.
