Well after hours of trying to get this pos To run and idle I decided to check the comp. Thought I had already done this but I goes not as it read 90 psi. No wonder it had so starting and idle issUes. Guess when it cools of I'll have to check the p & c as well as the ring.

I feel it has to be poor can comp. Have an identical 4018 that runs great and has chomp of 150. For about $ 20 I can get a new piston and ring so all may not be lost.

I got 120 psi on the gauge, a bit less with the muffler off.
I can see a bit of blow by , little bubbles between the piston n cyl. turning her by hand.

thats cool we auto zones all over i did not know they stocked chainsaw fuel line i will have to ask them next time im in there it always seem like late sat or sunday you need it think im just going to buy me a bulk roll also!!! thanks for the heads up!

Comp is low to me. Muffler on or off shouldn't make a diff in comp.I I I
I need to check the gauge against another, I have a feeling she reads low.

Hmm,.. I would like to make her right again , hows getting parts for this one ? , a quick search didn't look to promising.

I've seen them run good at 100 psi.
Yours is low but still very useable.
You might be able to raise that a few psi by swapping the rings top to bottom and bottom to top.

Ive done that too, Mike. While he's at it, he may as well remove the cylinder gasket. That should help as well I

Got a nice low hour Craftsman 3.4 in. It was a dirty greasy mess but it cleaned up well. It has a 150lbs compression dry.

Needs some fuel lines and TLC like the rusty muffler cleaned up. I think this will get a deflector style muffler mod.

This might be up for a rehomeing.

Permatex Moto-Seal is what I use.
What makes it the best for me is $6.00 for a tube as big as a tube of toothpaste!!!LOL
I daub it on with a Q-tip after I pull about half of the cotton off.
The tube is a little ungainly by itself in some of the tight places we work.
