Hello folks... yesterday, I received an excellent example of a Craftsman saw made by Poulan... it looks the same as the saw that the scored piston and cylinder came out of, except the plastics are different colors.

This thing runs like a top as it is, couldn't imagine it if it were ported and muff modded...

So... what I did was research prices on a p/c for this Craftsman, which is a 3.0 cube model, and thought that since they surely would fit the broken Poulan I have, I could get them...

Problem is, I'm looking at 160+ bucks getting the parts from Sears... way too rich for my cheap Dutch arse...

Anyone have a p/c they are willing to sell for a fair bit less? I'd greatly appreciate it, since I really would like to get that Poulan to roar so it can accompany the Craftsman for some firewood cutting.

Also, this Craftsman was only used on one tree, a big maple that had to be dropped and cut up. Years, years, and years ago... Started right up and roared to life... now I just need to find some non bumper link homeowner type chain so it can actually eat some wood...

(will post pic later, probably tonight)

Here she is...

I ran her through some of that maple that I cut a while ago with a big yellow Mac...

She cuts okay... that ####ty safety chain is a well, piece of #### that holds back cutting speed, as we all know. Also, while I was making chips, it seems like the saw is having carby problems...

She'll cut once or twice, then when you pull the trigger, she'll bog down and die. Smells a bit warm at that point as well. Same thing repeated itself many times...

Hope it ain't the crank seals. If it is, then that's another saw that will be put on the waiting list. :bang:

Dean, didnt you have one of those up here at the GTG. Think thats the one I remember. It was a nice runner!

Hey Zack,
Yeah, I've got one...........pretty good runner with some V. big torque. Somebody cut the rakers down a bit too much, nearly made the chain unusable. I'll give ya two guesses who did that and the first three don't count.
Dean:cheers:

I picked up a Micro 25 yesterday and spent most of today getting it cleaned up and running but the clutch is shot.I've got a couple of s25 parts saws and need to know if they use the same clutch. Thanks, Dan

I think they're different.

Dean, I believe you started off one of our GTGs with that saw. The one where it threatened to rain, but ended up being a nice day

Zach when are ya'll having another GTG??? I'll make that trip for sure.

I'm sure I've got one of those clutches. Send me a PM if you need one.

I just got hold of a nice little Poulan s25da. I have it torn apart because the cylinder was scored, and was wondering how do you turn the rings on these saws. I dont see any pin or anything to line them up to.
Thanks.

OK I'll bite. What did you do this time???

Not what I did this time, last time may have done it though...

Or is everyone busy scrounging through boxes in the garage for a p/c? Or sleeping maybe?

I'll troll fleabay and see if anything is there... last time I looked (yesterday) nothing was on there.

If there is no pin just line them in a spot with no ports. Not that they will stay there though. :hmm3grin2orange:

You were posting about a p&c for a 3300 or something. Right?

The bore measured at 1.830 inches... that measurement was taken with a telescoping gauge and a micrometer, with the aluminum transfer streaks still in the cylinder... so it may actually be 1.831"

Hell, we ain't gotta be this precise, do we? :biggrinbounce2: I, for some reason, like to be precise. Well, at least precise enough that no mistake or misunderstanding can occur.

Okay... now I'm gonna go visit Acre's site and see what Poulan saw matches up.

Or if one of you know off of the top of your head, that'd be a little more convenient for us. (me)

Acres idea ain't gonna work... there are no bore size specs listed under the listings.

Thanks.

Keep them on the opposite side of the exhaust port and one on each side of intake port. They would be about 70 degrees apart, I think.

245

the A variant. Any good as an older saw? Shake your fillings out? Parts availability mostly down to like ebay, or what? Last time I ran a saw that old was back when they were new, all I remember is saws back then were heavy and shook your fillings out. they cut..but....

If I got one and it was a fair runner, is there interest in these saws here, as trade potential?

thanks in advance guys!

That didn't help me either. Search for stuff, and stuff. :D

There are lots of the 245 saws still out there, they must have made a bunch of them. One pops up every now and then at our local shops but I was never able to latch onto one. I did manage to get a Dayton version of that saw however. Us guys that don't cut wood all day never notice the vibes or we're used to them.
