Couldn't take it anymore I had to measure the bore on this nice countervibe, Came out at 1.875 inches (47.4mm) and that makes it a 3800 thick ring!!! I'm just So Happy I could just s***. My beauty pawn shop score just turned into a Gem!!! its not a 4000 but oh well I think I'll live.

Lets see If I can get some pics of it cleaned up, has few more scuffs now thats shes cleaned up, and I found my stash of NOS Poulan/Oregan 70DL Low Kickback chain for it too, from 1994 (not my choice but I have it and goes to it)
Now what to do with it??????? I guess I'll get the decals for it as its worthy of them. (pawn shop junk Poulan)

Congrats on the 3800:msp_thumbup: If the decals are available, I would definitely get a set. Would be the right thing to do, and save confusion in the future. :) I have never run a 3800. But if they are anything like the 3700, and would assume they are, you will like it. Full chisel or semi chisel chain would be my choice, if I was going to be using the saw for actual work. But, if its just going to be a resto, mostly set on the shelf saw, then by all means use the NOS (safety) type chain. It will cut too! LOL

That there is a purty saw! Especially for being as old as it is.

Gregg,

Well I found the correct recoil side Decal for it from Sears Parts Direct, $2.47, clutch side may be tricky, its not show on my IPLs but I'll keep searching, If I have too, I'll wait till find a whole cover in good shape. I have plenty O saws, so for now its a shelf queen, maybe just use it to demonstrate a REAL Poulan work saw to Dumb People!!!
Never used or owned a 3800, loved my craftsman 3700 though, its really the same minus materials inside.

Now I have another one of these in the mail!!! looks the same with scratches and scuffs, no decals can I be so lucky?????

Thanks "All" for the interest in this fine tool, that is Made In The USA (just doin my part)

Hey tim, that there is a nice saw, I had one just like it last year, I sold it to a buddy of mine, he wanted a 24" bar and chain, so I got em an Oregon powermatch and LGX chain. The saw has plenty of power, especially with a 4200 saw style exhaust mod. It pulls the 24"er easily.

Her she is wearing the 24 sitting next to a Craftsman branded 3800.

My first exhaust mod, little chinsy but it worked.

If you have troble finding the decals give Sugar Creek Supply a holler, he'll make decals for anything as long as he has somthing to go off of, plus some rough measurments.

Anyway AS won't let me put the link up for chainsawcollectors forum, just type the url with chainsawcollector.se, then rest of the link you see

gold series

got this at the flea market last week end. it has great comp and starts right up. still has the power sharp on it. will have to loose that chain for sure. this makes red, grey and gold poulans from sears. which came first ? what years were they sold ? also have a small echo in the gold color.

Why lose it, when you can upgrade..maybe

Neat looking saw man! Hey, here's a thought..instead of losing the old powersharp system, why not try to upgrade it to the newer improved version? The stuff they sell on the racks now is for the external cassette sharpening system, BUT, the one I have on the battery saw is a redesigned onboard system, and I got the numbers for ya! Maybe it will fit, don't know..I do know the chain is new, different geometry, and the stone is better stuff.

Here are the numbers I have, for a 14 inch bar and chain/stone pack

Bar -Oregon 548182 PQ (chain number on bar) 91-52

Chain -91PS052X

I don't see a separate number on the cutting stone that mounts under the cover.

However, Bailey's has them as a kit, just looked, chain plus the correct stone, under "powernow" chainsaw and accessories.

If that will fit, don't know, if you want me to take a pic and give you mounting hole measurements or something, I can do that. Or you could just give powernow a call or email and ask them.

Just thought I would throw that out at ya in case you might be interested. The one I have works pretty good actually and it is slick to go from dull back to sharp in like three seconds....

That is FANTASTIC. I've never seen a roller nose bar for this saw series. I think that little Sears/Echo is a CS301. Good saw in it's own right. From what I've seen, the first Poulan 25's sold by Sears were a funky teal/blue color. The gold Explorer saws came next, then red, then grey. I agree with Mark. The teal saws were from the beginning (1970?) until 1972 or so when they switch to gold. The switch to red came around 1974, with the switch to grey happening around 1988 or so IIRC. Approximations here....

Thats three colors for these, I have a Model 30V in John Deere yellow, though to be fair, thats a CS302 equivalent. A handy lil saw, back in the day.
I'll bet far more expensive than a Poulan, though a wash on ease of service.

I remember the gold Sears, but only from my days of catalog reading. Spent a lot hours in them as a kid before I realized there was pictures of women in their undapants. Where I delivered appliances for the catalog store, the basement had a catalog inventory I would glance through if I needed reading material before sleeping on my cot-I also worked nights at a factory in town. Much wiser than driving home while tired, and pure genius on Fridays after the morning bowling league. No sleeping aids required after that.

Got some pics finaly.

The new 3314 I been workin on.

The muff mod.

The 3700 just waiting for it's 20" bar.

I bet that muff mod woke that saw up! Looks a bit tricky to get apart and back together!

You gotta heat the seam up cherry red with a torch and work it over with a small flat tip screw driver, then reheat to close back up and crimp with a linesman plyer.

BTW I did the muff mod and cut the restricting air filter cover open more, and reset the carb and yes that woke that sucker up nice. She ain't quiet no more lol.

Custom 3.7 in big stuff

They cut some big old Maples up by mt parents house, my dad was talking to the guys after they were done cutting and the wound up unloading right in the back yard! The tree was hard maple and the bigger stuff was about 30". I used the 3.7 on all the stuff that was bar length and buried it in s few cuts that were more than the bar was long. It has plenty of power for it and Made short work. This saw has a 4000 intake on it and a MM muffler. I also used my 330 on a few cuts. Now, that saw has a 20" bar and .325 chain, I hadnt really tested in in real wood yet, just some 8" pines we took down a few months ago. Boy was I surprised! This saw had no problem at all in the bigger stuff! I modded it a bit when I re-built it by removing the base gasket and moto-sealing it, opening up the ex. port a bit and the modded the muffler. Had fun used a few other saws as well but posted those pics in the main forum.

325 pro

I found this 325 Pro in a pile this Saturday when I went to pick up a couple of other saws, this one is the early version with closed transfers and windowed piston. Looks to have only been driven to the woods by a little old lady on Sundays. Runs good but I don't have a bar for it so have not seen what it will do.

Thats what I'm talking about!

You will like that one. If not then somethings wrong with ya. :msp_ohmy: They run very well.

Nice pics Joe:msp_thumbsup: That kinda looks like my weekend. LOL Took a couple more Ash trees down yesterday & this morning. Used a 4000 & my Craftsman 3.7 also. Those are what I use on most average size trees. When I get into bigger stuff, I'll use the 4200, 5200, etc. Not because I have to, But, because I want to!!
